Default Footwell courtesy light "module"

I'm working on upgrading the interior lights and I was looking at the stock light in the passenger side footwell (2013 JK Sport S). The light "module" has more than just a light in it, it looks like it has some sort of sensor. There are 4 wires going in, presumably 2 for the light, and 2 for the sensor.
Does anyone know what this thing does?

I'll try to post some pics tomorrow.

I was curious so I pulled the module out of my '13 JKU. It turns out there are 4 wires going into it because there are 2 separate LED's in it!

make that a "bring back due to popular demand".. all my TJ's had it... some 07 JK's had it... then they dropped it till so many people complained they brought it back....

what ever bean counter at chrysler thought people dont need footwell lights in a Jeep was crazy!

Did you ever get pictures of those lights? I'm having trouble with all my courtesy lights. None of them will come on with the doors, or when unlocking it.

One more question. On the gear shifter, do the positions light up? Or are they suppose to light up?

Here is the module in the 13 JKU Sahara. It is plugged into the wiring harness and held up by one screw. This is off the passenger side. It has two lights with it but I don't know when the other one comes on or what it does. I've only seen the one that points directly down come on. I cut the wires to the one I know comes on with the dome lights and attached two LED light strips to the wires to mount on the passenger side. I tested them by plugging them back in and they work great. I just have to decide where to mount the strips. I know one will go by the door kick panel, thinking of putting the other one under the glove box angled toward the seat or placing it at the bottom of the center stack to light up that area. I will do the same for the driver side once I remove it.
