DNX9960 or MyGig?
hello, new to this high tech stuff and new to this forum, so please forgive any silly questions seeing how i just crawled out from under a rock, here we go, has anyone installed Kenwood DNX 9960? is this a better unit than MyGig, and if so what is needed to install properly

I'm not well versed on this topic but I'm extremely unimpressed with MyGig. Almost as good as Honda's Nav(only comparison I have) but still doesn't feel worth the money. Having it LockPick for it would raise it's value for sure, but still..

DNX9960 or MyGig?
thank you for input, but how does MiGig work after lockpick, and how much does that cost? I want to try to figure total cost to work in amp and speakers later, and total up front cost will determine how long before next step in system

This is an explantion of what it does. Definitely do a search for some threads about it on here.

I have both MyGig ( JK ) & Kenwood DNX6960 (Honda )...I Equally Love Both...my only beef is the lockpick is way overpriced...the by-pass ,I use for the Kenwood only cost me $15...it allows me to input addresses and play dvd's while I'm driving ( for the kids , it sends the dvd signal to the rear headrest units ) & allows me to listen to Sirius up front...( Dual Zone )... very Nice ...very convenient.....you can't go wrong with either radio...

If i knew how the mygig was i would have just ordered mine without it. I like it for the harddrive and its better than having the regular unit in there. But i would go aftermarket if i had to choose again.

Kenwood is having problems with the DNX line in JKs. I had the 6160 and ended up returning itafter 8 or so trips back to the stereo shop for it overheating. One of the Kenwood techs (from KW, not the stereo shop) suggested hardwiring the radio into the Jeep claiming it would run 25% cooler. I wasn't much into having them hack my factory wiring, so I just returned the radio.
Also, you dont have to pay for a bypass with the Kenwood units. You just ground the parking brake wire and you're in business.

I have had the Kenwood DNX9960 installed in my Jeep JK for about a year now, the deck is decent but not really worth the money Kenwood wants for it. Some of the problems that have been a criticism of the deck is it will constantly reset itself, which can be a pain to deal with. There is however a way to save the settings, which does help when the deck decides to reset. I know Kenwood has come out with some firmware fixes for this, but the latest firmware update caused problems to the volume control.
I have not had any problems with the deck overheating even during summer of last year.
The install was time consuming because there is some cutting to a metal bracket that has to be cut in order to get the deck to fit properly. The wiring also needs to be tucked up into the dash in order to get the deck pushed back far enough to fit with the dash kit. Once everything is completed the deck looks good in the dash. The parking brake wire can also be grounded (without a kit) so all your functions will work when the Jeep is in gear.
You will need a dash kit and an aftermarket wiring kit like PAC that will tie into the factory wiring.
Good luck with your decision and for the money I would definitely go with an aftermarket deck.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Uk spec Kenwood DNX9260BT, better price than the dealer wanted for the mygig.
Also have front and rear cams, iPod connector, all for less than the dealer option and it uses Garmin sat nav.
Post some pics when I can.
