Default Custom JKU Fiberglass sub box

We all know how poor the quality of the audio components are in our JK. Even with the premium sound system there is still more to be desired.

I had to change something but hate the way these bulky aftermarket sub boxes look and the way they ruin the ability to fold your seats.

These are some pics of the fiberglass custom molded 10 inch woofer enclosure and door speaker replacement.

I am using a 10 inch Rockford R2 powered by a dinky Boss Riot 1100 mono with dash and sound bar speakers from Focal v65 polyglass series 6.5s

Nice dude. So I take it you leave the rear seat out all the time?

Look again. The rear seats are in and upright.

Nice work! Any better pictures of the pods for the front speakers?

Yeah this is a jku so the seats aren't messed with but when I want I can still lay them flat to accommodate cargo and I won't have to slide an awkward box out of the way.

Yeah the pods for the front are stock I just pulled the rinky-dink cardboard OEM speakers out and powered them with a 4x45w alpine amp. I stuffed poly fill into the pods to allow richer sound with less empty mid range sound. I murdered a pillow. I have no regrets.

Ok, I misunderstood. In picture #7 there were some pods under construction, I figured they were for door or kick panel installation.

Really nice job on that Sub Box. I experimented with some different subs in different locations. My first attempt was rebuilding the factory sub box to accommodate a 10" shallow mount. Basically I sliced the front on the factory enclosure, added an MDF ring and glassed up the box. The results were great....as long as the hard top was on. Problem is once the hard top was put away, so was the bass. It was simply playing off into space.

My second attempt was going to be exactly like you did. I planned to put in TWO 10" subs, one on each side just like you did, but I thought I'd have the same problem. While I was planning and driving around with the top off my Jeep, I realized I had three goals: 1) I needed a way to secure and lock the back cargo area of the Jeep because I never leave the soft top on, 2) Because the back would be sealed up, I couldn't put the sub in the back, 3) The install had to be 100% stealth...If there is nothing to steal, why break in?

I ended up using the under-seat locations for both front seats. I test fitted a Sundown SD-2 10" and it fit perfectly (I was using a friends Jeep - I paid him back by giving him a box). I was able to build the boxes with .53 cu ft. Now I can hear and feel the bass with the top off. I put a writeup in the electronics section.

Then I had a friend make me a cargo cover for the back.

With a detachable face on the head unit, there is absolutely no evidence of an aftermarket stereo except for this but no one would know what it is.

Wow Mattk11, I am headed in exactly that direction. I'll get the sub boxes from you (like I said, why re invent the wheel since you have already done the leg work on these) I think I'll go with the sundowns..My components are going to be in a custom enclosure under the rear seat, along with a locking storage drawer. I am just about done with the design and templates for my rear cargo area cover, but mine has to be water proof so my traveling companion of the AR variety stays warm and dry.

Aldonoward3, I am interested in hearing how satisfied you are with the Focal's. That is about the last decision i need to make is replacement speakers.....
