Could You Have Done Without MyGig?
I am ordering my rubi, and am thinking,... How badly do I need MyGig? For the money here, I could get a better suspension, shafts,... something else,...
For those who have it, could you have done without it, or is it so cool you consider it a must have?
For those without it, are you regretting the decision (or inability) to go without MyGig?
Thanks to all!!!

I am a non-mygigger. I like my setup better, personally. I put in my own DVD head unit for about $1000. It has more features than my-gig, the SQ is very good. There are expandability options available for it that are either non-existant for the mygig or a lot cheaper.
In all, I don't regret not getting the mygig. I feel my money was much better spent on my set up.

I am completely satisfied and glad that I ordered my MyGIG. I actually bought my 2008 Unlimited Rubicon without it and bought the MyGIG online and had it installed at the dealer. I really like the trail feature which allows you to save a certain number of trails for finding your way back when adventuring. I also like how you can use GPS way points as destinations which comes in handy with an off-road guide book I have. And for general purposes around town it's nice to have since it is fairly easy to use and has a ton of Point-of-interests within it's directory. Then the other features such as the built-in Sirius and digital jukebox allowing you to rip a plethera of music on to it's hard drive is way cool! It even knows the names of the artists and songs of most original cds you put into it. My unit doesn't have the ability to display DVDs (I can only hear them) but that's not something I would really use anyway. I have a laptop from which I can play DVDs on if I go camping or something. Then there's the whole "wow" factor. Just about everyone who sees it is totally amazed by what it is and what it can do. There's nothing out there really like it unless you want to purchase a $50+ Lexus or Mercedes. I am totally glad I purchased mine.

I have the MyGig and even though I have had some problems with it I really like it. I think that aftermarket stereos look well, aftermarket and just don't look that great.
When my wife needs a new vehicle in about 2 years I am considering getting her a Rubicon and leaving it stock (ya right!). I am actually hoping there will be a diesel option, even though I am in Kalifornia. If we do get another one it will also have the MyGig in it. Go for it. If you don't like it you can always take it out and sell it to someone who would want it.

Could I have lived without MyGIG?
YES - I'm living quite handily without it. I did splurge for the stereo upgrade, and I find that the 6-disc DVD players (which can read discs with MP3s burnt on them) gives me more than enough functionality.
If you're a real technophile, it may be worth it to you. However, I'd recommend saving the money if you're on the fence about it... Oh, and BTW, I've heard that there are some great aftermarket units available for less $$$!

I don't understand why everyone tries to compare spending $1500 for MyGig to buying a DVD out of pocket? The $1500 MyGig is included with your financing, so its not out-of-pocket, while an aftermarket will be (with exception of credit cards/etc). If you are trying to make yourself feel better because you only spent $1000 on your DVD player instead of the $1500 MyGig spread out over however many months, then more power to you, I'll be getting it included with the purchase price and save the out-of-pocket expense for things you can't get at the factory.

I have the MyGig from the factory and I am glad I got it. I am not into electronics at all. No I-pod or any of that stuff. I have no idea how to do anything on the computer but the MyGig is real user friendly and loaded with features that I did want but didn't want to get 2,3, or 4 machines to get. It is handy and self-contained and I am still fiddling with all the features and such. I would recommend it highly.
