I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHO'S FAULT THIS IS. BECAUSE JEEP DOESN'T SEEM TO CARE AT ALL IF YOU HAVE A COMPLAINT, THEY JUST SAY GO TO YOUR LOVELY "FIVE STAR DEALER" OR PASS THE COMPLAINT DOWN THE LINE AND OR SEND YOU A BULLSHIT FORM LETTER.

Unfortunately, that's VERY true. Stealerships will not help you and void your warranty if...

1: You install a piece of aftermarket equipment...

2: You install a piece of Mopar-liscensed equipment by yourself without their assistance...

3: Stick ANYTHING in the AC cig adapter that isn't liscensed by Mopar...

4: Engage the 4WD on any surface other than dry, summer-to-autumn kissed pavement...

5: Affix a decal on any part of your Jeep...

6: Paint any portion of your Jeep a different color than what it started out as...

7: Use an aerosol can in a manner not prescribed by the law...

8: Eat, drink, or smoke at any time inside your vehicle...

9: Catch sight of a butterfly allighting on top of your hood...

10: Using a fuel additive...

11: Using your cellphone inside your vehicle (something about the magnetic-electrical system)...

12: BREATHE AIR INSIDE YOUR JEEP.

Any one or all of these infractions will net you a serious, stern look from any of the desk-riding, mouth-breathing, KNUCKLE-DRAGGERS stealerships employ nowadays to condescend the customer when he/she arrives for something as simple as a recall or warranty work.

Ohh, and they'll void your warranty on the spot, too.

So, what do you do? Go to secondary mechanics that only have a 6-month education on the model year of your Jeep, and turn them loose on your baby? NO.

You and other Jeep friends get together, buy a copy of the Factory Service Manual, and learn what it is to own a Jeep the right way. Stealerships are good for only one thing. WARRANTY WORK. Use the internet to go get parts for your rig that stealerships would charge 150% markup for, or use places like NAPA, Autozone, Advance Auto, etc... for local parts retrieval. Got an engine light? Either take it to Autozone and have them pull down the error codes, or buy a code reader and do-it-yourself. Want to add a lift kit? Research Jeep heights online, research how to install one yourself, order what you need, assemble all the necessary tools you should have bought the moment your Jeep rolled off the lot, buy some beer, and get your buddies to help you install it. You get the idea.

Ohh, and don't change the radio station, flip up the sun visor, insert a CD (ESPECIALLY ONE YOU'VE BURNED YOURSELF!!!), fold down the seats, for that matter, don't add neoprene seat covers, or do anything that might alter the appearance or vast functionality of your Jeep. They hate that too.

So I heard back from the dealership a couple of days ago. They said the main computer was gone and ordered me a new one. The more they worked on it trying to figure out why the main computer died they kept getting led to the sway bar. The called back today and said that the main computer went out because of a short from the wiring harness to the sway bar disconnect. They said water had pooled in the plug and corroded it till it finally shorted. They said the reason was because someone had rotated the sway bar 180 degrees so the plug was on top not allowing it to drain water. They are really cool and going to replace everything under warranty but those people that have rotated their sway bar I would definitely either rotate them back or use a ton of dieletric grease to try and stop the problem. Mine may have been worse case scenario or it could have been aggravated by me running without a front bumper for a while but my guess it it is a flaw with Jeep and will eventually happen to all the rotated ones. My dealer figures they will still warranty it because they are cool, it is a stupid design and one short shouldn't blow out the main computer but I'm guessing most won't.

This is bad. My pop works for AAM. They make the sway bar module. My pop asked me if I had any probs with my e-disco sway bar yet since they KNOW OF A MALFUNCTION involving poor weather tight seals and the sway bar module. Yikes.

That is just scary that they know something is wrong and don't fix it...I wonder how many computers it will knock out before they fix the problem.

It is NOT AAM's fault. They made Chrysler aware of the issue with their wire harness. Typical DCX. I work for a supplier to them, and we point out things wrong with their processes all the time. They never fix them. This doesn't surprise me in the least.

p.s. Don't buy a Dodge Crew when they come out!

That doesn't surprise me, I'm really hoping that now they gotten rid of Mercedes their quality will go back up but I know I'm simply getting my hopes up.

I would be weary of any dealer that says there even is a 'main' computer. But, he is probably talking about the tipm.

As for the problem, the shared wires going to the sway bar module are can and iod power. Its probably bullshit that either of them that a short to power or ground destroyed your tipm. All circuits in the tipm are prepared for constant or intermittent shorts.

Your module was probably fine but it sounds to me like your can bus was shorting to ground (temp network problem, no lasting damage). They should have told you that as there are dtcs for it.

They just love throwing parts at problems

I pick it up in the morning, it will be interesting to see what parts they actually replaced. I'll post up on here once I get the receipt. I don't know anything about auto computers.

I'd like to hear what your dealer replaced. I've experienced a similar problem with my new Sahara over the last month. Had the TIPM reflashed a couple of weeks ago with the 'stall bug' update because the dealer thought that would fix the 'beserk computer' symptoms. Didn't experience the dash lights flashing on and off again until today.

I have had periodic problems with the amplifier not turning on even though the head unit is working. When I checked the fuse for the amp, it was fine but I had to pull it out and re-seat it to get the amplifier to work. Today when the dash lights starting flashing on and off I pulled the green 30A fuse and put it back in and problem temp solved. Don't want to repeat this procedure so I'm going back to service and have them troubleshoot the TIPM (possible short?).
