Default Cobra 75 WX Install

I bought a CB kit last week and had finished installing it last night. I had done it in pieces due to lack of free time (3yr old and 11mo old at home). Phase 1 was the antenna, mount, and running the coax cable to the front. I also brainstormed locations for my external speaker.

Since the radio box was going under the glove box the 6ft speaker cable wouldn't reach to the sound bar. I thought I'd mount it on the dash, right in the middle and almost up against the window (in 2011+ interiors there's a little platform between windshield vents). I figured I'd try some heavy-duty exterior two-sided tape to secure it. We'll see how it holds-up off-road, anyway.

Phase two was last night, where I mounted the box (zip-tied to an aluminum brace under the glovebox), wired the unit for power and ground, mounted the external speaker and ran the wired behind the dash, and ran a ground from the tailgate to the main tub (subwoofer bolt). Everything went smoothly but the wide still complained that it took too long, lol. I never got around to tuning the antenna since it was late.

Phase 3 was this evening when I got home: tuning the antenna. Went to tune it initially and got a high (7-ish) SWR. Went back to my driveway to make sure everything was grounded (no multi, unfortunately). Pulled off the antenna and noticed the thick paint on the Teraflex spare carrier mount and knew I had to sand it. I sanded/filed the hole for the antenna and mount points. Ran back to the open area and got a 1.0 on CH 1 and 1.5 on CH 40. Woohoo!

All done Sorry, no pics. Oh, still haven't figured out where I'm going to put the mic mount. As of right low it's hanging on one of the center vents.

Cooltech offers a bracket that attaches under the existing screw for the handle above the glove box. You can then attach the small, chrome-plated bracket that came with the radio kit to that to hang the mic just to the right of your stereo head unit.

Another option (that I use) is a small metal (they make plastic, but I'd get metal) hook that attaches to the button on the back of the mic (it just slides on). The other side is a larger hook that can be hung off the rear view mirror or some other doo-dad (I used the windshield footman loop on my '07, but that has other uses on later years). Currently I just have it hung off a hook I mounted to the sPOD controller ...

I like your mic mount, thanks! I was wondering about something like that. Does it not hamper your view out of the windshield too much?

It doesn't bother me, and I leave it up there all of the time. However, it may bother someone else, and some states may have laws against things hanging up in that area.

I bought a kit too. I chose not to mount the speaker or a handset holder. The handset is plenty loud for me. I connect the handset under the dash and lay it on the console when in use. When not in use, unplug and put in console. 99% of the time the CB is invisible. Very clean install. No holes in the dash, etc.
