Default CNET comments for Alpine system Subwoofer durability

Give this commentary from CNET a read. Alpine and Jeep build weatherproof audio for the Trail-Rated Wrangler - CNET

I'm most curious about the "different audio profiles for top on and top off driving" the article is referencing. Have a I missed this setting on my Alpine system? I have the 430N with the 9 speaker Alpine system in my 15' JKUR.

Also, it's good to know how rigorously the subwoofer was tested before being put in the floor of the jeep. Apparently Alpine tested the speaker with mud, silt, ice, rocks and even fully submerged in water for over 90 hours at full power.

Good to hear. I just picked mine up and look forward to testing it out. So far it sounds pretty good. I was worried how the sub would hold up.

Yeah, it is reassuring. I love the sound of mine and think it does a decent job, even with the top off. Still want to know where the top on/top off audio profiles are though. Could have been a 730N thing.

From previous threads I've read, the top on/off profiles aren't a setting that's user accessible. Whenever the wire harness for the top is disconnected, it triggers a profile change in the head unit. I believe that it turns down the rear audio bar slightly and some other EQ changes.

I know there is a thread around somewhere that shows someone making a jumper wire to keep the radio in "top on" mode. I'm not sure what it was titled though.

This video confirms the defroster/wiper connection changes the profile. Some good stuff in here.

Looks awesome. Little jealous that it's not in my jeep.

That video is great. I was contemplating those foam speaker boxes for the dash and some filler for the sound bar but apparently it's all been thought of already.

It was interesting what he said in the video about the subs being self cleaning. That seems dubious, but I guess we will find out in a year or two if the sub is packed with dirt or not.

1. I thought that video actually had really interesting information in it.

2. Did anyone else find it at least a little funny that the presentation was in that dude's house and none of the audience was under 65?
