There is a way to turn it off...
But, I think you have a sensor problem. Go back to the dealer!

it doesnt shut off automatically after you change the oil

from page 207 of owners manual

Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Do not
start the engine).
2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal slowly three
times within 10 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF/LOCK position
NOTE: If the indicator message illuminates when you
start the vehicle, the oil change indicator system did not
reset. If necessary repeat this procedure

you can download a searchable pdf version of the owners manual on jeep.com

I've had the light come on twice (both times I was overdue for an oil change), and both times, the light went out (on it's own) after the change...

Obviously try to turn it off by the directions, but if it keeps coming back with a fresh filter and oil, you've got a sensor problem...

Can you reset it if you change the oil before the light comes on? I did the procedure once when I had changed the oil early and it came on a couple thousand miles later. It then successfully reset.

I wish it was like my GM oil life monitor in my Solstice. It tells you the percentage of oil life left.

Yes you can reset it at any time you want.
I have.
Just as stated above. Turn key to "on" position, depress gas pedal three times and then turn key off,
That all it takes. The JK estimates the need to change the oil based on engine data but doesn't have a sensor that tells when the oil is dirty or lost its viscosity.

The JK has no way of knowing you changed the oil. There is no sensor. The computer keeps track of the duty cycles and decides when it thinks you should change the oil.
There is a TSB to handle early oil change alerts.

If your light went out, it wasn't because it knew it had new oil in the engine.

I'm glad I've got a 2007 - what with all these TPSM's and Oil Change sensors (if they exist) - I'd be pulling over every 10 minutes. I know what my "Nitrogen" pressure is and I change my Oil "Synthetically" every 3000 miles . My JK never beeps at me.

I regret the day that I sold my '81 CJ7. But still love my JK.
