Best Alarm System for a JK?
#11
I have the same question because I received the same response from local dealers. I usually don't leave anything of value in my jeep, but when I am out hunting or camping I can't carry everything. I thought about leaving a note in the window saying "I will be right back fully armed, nothing in here worth a life."

No they don't have to disable the factory alarm. I don't have a remote start so I can't answer that question but as far as mine goes, both alarms work (factory & viper) w/the same fob factory key. Not sure what dealer you're checking w/ but if it's the jeep dealers no wander they have no idea what you're talking about. Check w/custom audio/security car places and they'll tell you it won't be a problem.

I put in an Avital made by Directed Electronics (same company that makes Viper, Python and several others). It comes with the standard shock sensor, glassbreak, starter disable and the xmit/recieve signal when you arm & disarm is even encrypted & randomized for added security. And I added a 2 zone proximity sensor. That way if my doors are off, all anyone has to do is reach inside and I also added power locks and they function with the alarm. Disarm unlocks, arm locks and doors auto lock after 2 seconds when you start the motor. Oh and I had the installer put quick disconnects for the lock actuators so the doors still come off nice and easy. The interior light also goes on when disarmed. Nice factory styling.

Reviving an old thread...
I have a new JK that I will be putting the Clifford alarm from my 06 Unlimited into.
When I was looking for an alarm I found out that DEI electronics: directed.com
owns both Viper and Clifford. From my comparison research both are good alarms. The Clifford seemed to be the higher priced with more options.

Being a little "alarm naïve" ...what are the things to look for with an alarm for a JK? I would like to protect the stereo components and keep people from messing with anything laying inside. HAven't had any problems with the hardtop on, but during the summer I like to run doors off with/without a Safari and Duster.

audiovox/prestige is the only way to go IMO

Thanks Malo! Been looking at the Viper and Hornet OEM add-on, but will look into Clifford too.
I've been doing so much research. Sigh. Even called Chrysler who just told me to ring a service manager at a local dealership which I did. He just said that they only deal with Chrysler products.
The best info I've found by far has been on this forum when I entered the search term "alarm."
