Default Backup camera install help - kenwood dnx690hd

hey all! I've searched all over and can't seem to find a specific answer to my little problem here. I've just purchased a Kenwood DNX690HD head unit and was looking to add a backup camera to it. Question is, do I have to use a camera unit from Kenwood or can I get a generic brand (less $$) and connect it to the unit? Will I need a special harness for this or does the feed video come from an RCA output from the head unit?

Thanks in advance for the help everyone, much appreciated!!

Generally you can connect almost any 12v camera.
Does it list the requirements in the manual?

I have the Kenwood DNX570HD and it uses the standard yellow video connector and a 12v power line to run off the reverse lights. Any standard backup camera should work.

This is the one I use

the manual doesn't really tell me much just how to set it up in the menu screen but I'll check again.

Thanks for the input guys, I think I got the answer I needed.

RIPTIDE9, mind if I ask where mounted that particular camera?

Will I see difference between getting one that's CMOS or CCD?

Drilled a hole in the bumper to run the wire through and riveted right above the hitch receiver. Great pov for backing up to my trailer and the receiver shackle protects the camera (old picture below)

Here's an ok article about the differences between the 2... To CCD or to CMOS, That is the Question | B&H Photo Video Pro Audio

A flush mount water proof night vision camera is the way to go... I used one in my S2000... for over 13years with no issues.
