AVIC-Z1 install
This is a repeated message from another thread.
Be warned, this is not for the faint at heart.
I installed the AVIC-Z1 with the help of a professional installer.
We took the old radio out, performing surgery to fit the AVIC-Z1, the whole was to small.
He hard wired, without cutting the plug, the speakers, power and took the ignition from the cig. lighter.
We did not want to cut into the bus, so the only item that does not work properly is the dimmer, I can live with that.
The VSS we picked up next to the computer in the engine compartment, thanks to jdrogers.
The GPS antenna I left on top of the radio, under by a plastic cover.
I didn't hook up the hand brake, I used a by-pass.
I also installed a BT and iPod module, did not get a chance to try the BT, but the iPod did not work, all the controls did, but no sound (fixed, had reversed wire, BT works great)
As for pictures, I did not take any during the installation, but I will show the finished job, including the parts I cut out.
It looks like a million dollars!
Close-up
After I put the saw to it
Looking through windshield DS (iPod Module)
Looking through windshield PS
Location of GPS antenna, I tried other locations, but no visible differences.
The items I cut out, the rear bracket, not needed as the unit rest on the back self and the top cover, also not needed.
Update
Picture of where the VSS is connected.
PS I finally figured out on how to post picture here.

Now, if you'll only explain the wiring, I can try and do the same. One thing you might went to research is the "BLUE WIRE MOD" regarding the IPod (if you're an IPod guy). Apparantly, if you cut the blue wire, it gives you control over the IPod, instead of the painfully slow scrolling done on the Pioneer unit. If you wire it to a switch, you can take control if you have to do a lot of scrolling, or in the other position, the Pioneer can do the scrolling....when I install, I'm DEFINITELY going to do that mod.
Please explain the hard wiring that you guys did.
By the way, your install looks fantastic.

I got the iPod working, as far as the wiring is concerned, see above. I don't want to go into details because I did not do it completely. Further more, if someone does it per my half fast instruction and screws up, I don't want to take the blame.
Like I said before, any good technician can wire it.

Look, I did not mean to sound smart, but the truth is that I found this bracket while searching for accessories for my Jeep. I came across this bracket and it was a perfect fit for work I am doing on a large yacht.
I contacted the company and opened an account and ask the rep if he could help getting the bracket for this job. He promised to pull some stings and get me two, that took about two weeks.
Only later did I decided to buy the AVIC-Z1, so I used one and hopefully by the time I need more, they will be readily available.
