here's what I jsut picked up... A little pricey for a piece of metal and velcro... but it'll do the job nice.

Default Hood mount

Like Utahgoose, I mounted my antenna on the hood, right near the edge of the metal. I have an external tuner that runs to my Panasonic CQ-VD7005U head unit. No reception issues except for the obvious: pulling into my covered parking garage at my apartment complex. I think the antenna has no problems receiving a signal through fiberglass, but it works even more effectively if you attach the magnetic antenna to a metal surface that helps to amplify and enhance the signal.

i put my aftermarket xm receiver on top of the sound bar, not under padding or anything... it works really well through my top, and it's too small to interfere with anything.

All the wires on mine are well hidden all the way to the unit. hiding the wires was easier on the jeep than i ever imagined.
