Anyone using a Valentine One
#11
i agree. At highway speeds I have to try to speed. but haveing a V1 is more like a game for me. It makes me more aware of things around me. I rarely use it so I can do 90 on the highway.

I use the suction cup mount above my rearview mirror... the mirror just ever so slightly supports the back... thus taking the stress off the suction cups. It works pretty good.

Slightly related to this thread: I had a Valentine 1 in my last car (WRX) and had to get rid of it within the trial/return period. The unit worked great, but I was turning into a really horrible, overly-fast and -aggressive driver with it... and realized that it was only a matter of time until I got tagged with a reckless driving charge or hurt someone.
I don't really feel the urge to speed in the Jeep - it's fun at just about any speed, which can't really be said for "sporty" cars. I still do speed, as we all do, but I'm much closer to the limit now that I don't have a turbocharged engine! There's no longer a little devil on my shoulder urging me to gun it every chance I get .
Anyone else run into this problem at first? Just thought I'd share.

Hopefully I will not drive quite as aggressively in the JK (if I ever get it - ordered it December 8th - still BG).
Anyway, I hadn't really planned to put a radar detector in the JK. When I was a kid, I had one in my M38A1. I just bent the bracket to a near 90 degree angle and replaced the 3 little suction cups with a large square suction cup that I canabalized from one of those auto notepad things. I also affixed a chain to the bracket and the rear view mirror so that when it came off, it wouldn't hit the floor (instead it just swung around and crashed into the window).

- I tend to try to keep my Valentine out of site of other potential users.
- Home is good, horizontal is nice, but not required.
- I never just stick it on the dash with Velcro. That would be cruel and lead to loss of function (and again, place it in full view of other users)
- I also bend the suction cups to work for more vertical applications on my escort, but don’t ever let the Valentine catch you alone in the Jeep with it.
- I see no use for remote head, that doesn’t really work for me...
- Yes the suction cups work well to remove stress.
- The need for speed can become more of a sudden urge; I am not that aggressive, so generally just cruising along works the best for me.
- Using chains and brackets so you can’t swing around for fear of hitting the floor or crashing into a window just takes the fun out of it. Instead, try the parachute harness, the webbing won’t crack the windows.
- I dunno why you would mount it over the rearview, that would make access difficult to say the least. I cant seem to locate a clip mount.
- Drilling extra holes is strictly forbidden…
- Posting pics is not allowed.

it comes with the clip mount and it needs to be this high up so the rear radar will go over the rear seats and over the spare tire and the third brake light, it also needs to be there as you should be looking at the rear view mirror often anyways, and the radar is there as well, so at one glance you can do two things
it works perfectly, the radar is hardly an arms length away, if you can reach the rear view you can reach the radar, if you cant reach the rear view mirror, then you shouldnt be behind the wheel, besides i drive on the same roads and the V1 is an intelligent radar, it learns the false alarms and ignores them after about ten trips.

granted you're not going to be doing 100+ but sometimes you dont realize that you're over the speed limit say 70 or 75 and next thing you know a police officer nabs you, other times he would have let it go but today was a bad day and you're on the receiving end of it. I like to call my V1 a little insurance for when i have a brain fart and speed more than is legal.
