They are replacements for the stock headlight housings. I replaced those, upgraded the factory wiring so I could use higher wattage bulbs safely and I am using Hella 100/80 bulbs.

My HID kit is basically one off eBay. Be sure to order one with a long enough wiring loom (I know it's hard to tell from pics on eBay) because the JK's engine bay is a big one (from the battery to the headlights). Also, if you wish to keep your high beams, order an H13 kit with bi-xenon headlamps, otherwise you'll be stuck only with the lows (in such case, unless you have aftermarket housings with a better pattern than the stock ones, I haven't found that using the high beams provides you with any increased visibility).

I did do it myself. Here's a cost break down:

ARB/IPF Headlight harness: $89
Cibies (from seller on board): I think I paid $90 or so, don't remember
Hella bulbs, $25

Sold stock headlight housings -$60
Sold Sylvania bulbs -$25

So about $130-140 with extras here and there for wiring, zip ties etc. Well worth it in my opinion. I have usable high beams (100 watt ones at that). Best mod I have done yet. Really simple install. Hardest part was just getting the wiring laid out and adding some resistors and diodes to it. nothing hard at all though.

Just install the Silverstar bulbs, no need to replace the entire light.

There is a thread that gives very descriptive details on how to install, only takes 15-20 minutes to do. Otherwise if you want to spend more money install HID's.

Any "upgrade" to your Jeep is a move in the right direction. I don't personally see a huge difference, but on the other hand...who cares! I paid $40 for the headlights, and like $40-50 for the fogs I think.

I wasted more money to this point of tires for my 18" stock wheels!

I would not buy these again, but I would get the HID's I think with a nice white light color. I have no interest in making this Jeep glow like some punk with a Honda.

I installed the headlights and fog lights from Sylvania SilverStar.
I'd say the beam spread is the biggest improvement over stockers. The distance down the road is improved only a little, but visibility on the left and right shoulders is much better (helpful for curvy roads and dodging Bambi's).
The coloring helps a little too, but it's the beam spread that I feel makes these a worthwhile investment.
