Default Alpine 6.5 Type S Dash Speakers....

I swapped all 4 6.5" speakers in my 2017 JKU with Type S coaxial speakers and they are terrible. They buzz under any type of bass. I've filled the boxes with polyfil and even made custom foam gaskets to try to seal them to the boxes. No avail. They sound worse than the factory paper crap. Any thoughts? Should I go component? Kicker replacement? Or do 6.5" subs in the dash?? Thanks!

Have you upgraded the head unit?

Alpine is a very good brand for speakers and any car audio. The Type R is a better unit than the Type S, however that doesn't mean the Type S should be producing the sound you're describing. For them to sound right they need to be wired into an aftermarket head unit and amp/s that power them correctly. It could just be the surroundings making the sound also

I'm running the factory Nav in the 430N. I have the nice enclosure boxes in the dash too. What's the RMS output of the 430N? I'm not finding it

Not much! Maybe 15-20 watts per channel if that. That's why it's best to upgrade head unit for more watts about average of 40-50 watts per channel and to maximize the speakers would be to add an amplifier.

The factory head units suck. I ran about 75 watts per speaker to my Type R's and they sounded great and punched hard, lots of people thought I had a subwoofer, granted that was in my old 95 Acura Integra. Obviously to run that wattage I had the speakers running through amps. But I also had an Alpine head unit. The head unit will make a world of difference.

I may upgrade to the alpine restyle dash unit. Pricey but the best looking upgrade. I wonder if I'm pretty sure these require 75rms.

That thing is ridiculously expensive. Ripoff. I like Alpine but that's a joke at 3000+ or whatever it is. Sony makes a pretty nice one for around 700. Forget the model number but it's a clean looking piece. Spending thousands on a head unit with Alpine's mid tier speakers seems silly to me. I would be having an audio shop fully customize some speaker enclosures and surrounding areas and use some very high dollar speakers if I was going to spend 3000+ on a head unit. That's just me though

You are not going to hardly any bass from a Type S coaxial speakers. They are just to help get better sound to the ear. If you are looking for some bass you might want to add a small sub

Add a good 4 channel amp. You are not going to get any BASS out of those 6.5s. You should look into a 5 channel amp if bass is what your after and find a location to stash a ten inch sub. Under front seat is best. Remember more power can give you high volume levels, but it's main purpose is to increase sound quality. It wouldn't hurt to visit an audio shop and see what they have to offer. In my experience yelp will guide you to the friendliest shop in your area. 5 star reviews usually mean something.
