So a friend of mine is giving me his 430n, since he is getting the $2k Alpine system. My question is do I need to go do the dealer after I install it? He has his anti theft code and I’ll have his VIN if need it. Thanks for the help.

Yes- having the correct code makes it plug and play. I've bought used radios without issue or dealer assistance.
