Look into Howards Horns. On-demand air compressor (no tank needed), show quality chrome, and best of all, removable back plate for easy cleaning of diaphragms. Got a set on the Harley and usually hafta clean the diaphragm after each wash. Simple 4 screws, wipe it off, put screws back. Very loud, and top quality.
While googling for air horns, I found something which may be interesting.
Kahlenberg Industries, too, make high quality horns.
Among them, are air (or steam) 'whistles'... in 5 different frequencies, and pretty loud (check the sound samples).
Their big advantage is their small size, especially small diameter, and there are no moving parts.
I wonder if a small compressor such as a Howard compressor would be sufficient to use their full potential.

Mine are from eBay. $150. Super loud. Good sound. No problems
Any air horn that doesn't have a compressor. Ie from a truck, will most likely need an air tank to work quickly and efficiently/loudly

I just went to the auto parts store and picked up a generic horn for $17. Bent the bracket that came with it to fit and mounted under the hood. Tapped into the stock horn for the power wire and just ran the ground wire to the mounting bolt for the bracket. Sounds just like it should, louder than stock but not too annoying.
