Default 2010 RER work on an 07JK

Does anyone know what hurdles I would have to deal with if I purchased a 2010 RER and tried to put it into an early 2007JK?

The 2007 has/had REQ

edit: Dealer is telling me it is not possible...

If you're talking about the "mygig" different year Jeeps have a different "canbus" (whatever that is)
Something to do with how your electronics get power I think...

Dealer is dead wrong...2010 RER will work just fine in an 07 JK with one caveat. It needs to be a hig speed bus model. High Speed Bus vehicles are 07+ JK, 07+ Nitro/Liberty, 08+ Minivans, 09+ Dodge Ram. As long as if came from one of those, you're good to go.

Thanks, I knew there was the high and low bus speed, but I was worried the different radios had different pinouts, different size plugs, or need to have the jeep flashed/starscanned or whatever.

The 07 and 08 have a different part number than the 09 and 10. That is what got me worried.

The 09 and 10 have different part numbers because they added iPod integration capability with an added cable. The 07 and 08 radio lack this capability.

If you put in a RER or REN in 07 with the stock RES is it plug and play?

Yep, completely plug and play. Only issue would be if you don't have Sirius, and the new radio does. In that case you would need to add the Sirius Antenna.

Also, if you add the RER (Nav unit), then you'll need a Nav antenna as well.

Thanks, that's what I thought.

Well, (un)fortunately my REQ was covered so I did not have to go about buying a nicer and more expensive radio.
