Man that's what I've been wanting to buy or at least and mess up. So hoe much did project set you back? Also where did you hide the ballasts for the HID headlights.

Hey 1stbsm I'm just wondering what size ccfl rings you used around the projector? Your write up seems to be the most complete in a sense of what
Exactly to buy to do this retrofit. Also, what bulbs are you running? Did you order the complete retrofit kit for like $270 or whatever it is. Sorry for bringing this thing from the dead

And also, what bulbs did you use and did you need any relays or anything? And what did it take for the wiring, I'm familiar with wiring just wondering what it entails, thanks!

So I tried a PnP kit in the H4 housing and that was a big fail. Next, I hacked apart 2 sets of stock headlight housing to stuff the projectors in, and again, a fail. The solution was this: a 7" round spun aluminum headlight cover from pegasus racing, with a 2.5" diameter hole cut in the middle for the FX-r projectors. The output is absolutely amazing and trounces stock, the H4 e-code lamps with either halogen or HID. The FX-R projectors are bi-xenon so you dont lose the high beam either. For pics, see my gallery.
I like those. Paint the housings black and I would put then on my jeep.

here are the brief steps taken to accomplish this mod.

I had acquired an extra set of oem housings from another member and then proceeded to separate the clear cover from the reflector.
I softened the locking tabs, with a heat gun, and pried them out so that they wouldn't impede my progress.I then put the entire housing in the pre-heated oven @265f for 7:00 min and then worked the seam between the two with a paint scraper
Attachment 135363
I then was able to get them apart with a bit of work
Next was to carve open to accommodate the ass end of the projector which were a set of Morimoto mini's from TRS and set them into the reflectors then hold everything in place with the use of an ABS 3" to 1-1/2" reducer which compressed the projector internally into the reflector and kept everything straight
Attachment 135364
I had to cut the ABS fitting to suit the length of the projector body and shape it to fit the contour of the housing using a dermal. After it was all done I sealed everything with pl premium and then painted everything black
Attachment 135365
I modified the "Apollo" shroud and installed an angle eye ccfl ring just for fun then mounted everything and proceeded to re-install the clear lens back onto the housing and viola a finished headlight
Attachment 135366
After everything was weather proofed with a bit of silicone and dry I found a good spot for the ballasts and went ahead and installed them back into the JK and I couldn't be happier with the end result
Attachment 135367Attachment 135369
The lights ended up just a touch longer then stock but because of the small size of the HID bulbs they fit into the existing holes without even moving the horn.

Hope you all enjoy this mod and let me know your thoughts good and bad

Where do I find something like this ABS 3" to 1-1/2" reducer?

Putting the housings in the oven and baking them @265 degrees for 7 minutes won't melt them right? I was putting mine in the oven at 210 degrees and baking them for 10 minutes and I had a heck of a time trying to pry them apart.

The reducer ring can be had from "The RetrofitSpurce.com" and the Jeep headlight likes 235 degrees for 15-18 minutes. Non convection oven time and temps. I don't think I would risk higher temps. I did mine at this temp and time and it was really really easy. I was even able to reheat the headlight components when done retrofitting and reuse the sealer that was there from the factory. Just re heat and press the parts together until the locking tabs engaged. Quick and painless and no moisture at all.
