I would choose the Mossberg 590 shotgun with rifle sights.
It's a great / reliable high capacity (8+1) pump shotgun.
Shotguns are great because you can use multiple types of loads, such as.....
#1: Birdshot for hunting small game / birds / fowl.
#2: Slugs rounds for hunting big game.
#3: Buckshot for defense against humans (or whatever else comes along...LOL!!! ).

I voted ar-15 but it would actually be the ar-10 or both. I always have a good stock in ammo for both but the reach of the 10 and knockdown of the .308 is hard to beat.

The Gunner/Co-Driver can smell a bad guy (or cheeseburger) from a mile out.
I also just got my DPMS L.R. 308 back from a friend, so I can reach out and touch again. The 1100 will be in my lap for Bug Out traffic jams (slugs)...
