I looked at the Supernova but it's just a little more than I want to spend right now. I would love to have a Benelli m4 one day.

I've owned a M1 super 90 and a Nova pump, used a mossberg 500 and a m1014 in the Marines. Personally I would never use a pump for home defense but thats just me. I'm looking at the mossberg 930 right now as my new home defense gun. Benelli is definitely worth the money, which is why the only two shot guns I've owned were both benellis, but buying a $600 mossberg instead of a $1200 benelli leaves me more money for jeep mods

I just picked up a Sig p220 a couple months ago so my cash for guns is running a little low right now...that's why I'm looking at the 870 and 590. I have an old Browning a5 shotty that my grandpa gave me...that's another reason why I'm looking for a pump.

Since you own a jk and you more than Likely into modifying stuff. After market parts could be something to consider. I personally have an 870 (only one of the 2 I have tried). Have a fold rear stock and a plastic pumper which would be great for home defense situation. Intact using the new stock herts like hell so I prefer to fire it stock folded up.

Thanks for the help everybody. I dedcided on the 590 because the controls are set up perfect for a lefty. I'll let you know how it shoots when I pick it up.

I have both the 500 and 870. The mossberg jams often and the forefrip shakes. The Remi has NEVER let me down. For $50 more, the 870 is an easy win.

Go for the Moss 870. I have a Moss 500 that I've had for several years that was my father's for many years before that.

Mossberg 500 and 590 are two totally different birds. The 590 is a much better firearm overall, and is closer to the Mossberg that is used by our military. A few parts are different, but not many.

I guess you mean that he should go for the Mossberg 590? Or did you mean Remington 870?

The 590 is a better firearm for lefties, if I would have known you were left handed that is the one I would have suggested to you. You can switch the safety on the 870 to make it more user friendly for lefties though.

They are both great. Just my .02, go with the MB. The 870 is a great all purpose shotgun, but the 590 is still what i'd want sitting by the door/bed/in the closet. If you want a good bolt action hunting rifle, go with Remington.
