I have one with a 14.5" 1/7 barrel and love it.. Extremely reliable rifle. It's the only non-Colt black rifle I own. BUT my favorite is no doubt my colt 6940! That thing is tits....

After a few nutcases here (in Australia) went postal back in the 90's with AR15's & SKS's our Federal government took over the gun laws (previously they were the responsibility of the individual states to regulate, much in the same way as they are in the US today) and imposed a blanket ban on civilian ownership of all semi-automatic rifles (centre-fire, rim-fire, the lot regardless of design) and pump-action shotguns for the entire country. Just recently they allowed farmers to have their .22 rimfire semi-autos back under strict conditions, but that's about it.
To make things worse, it wasn't some left-wing socialist government in power at the time, it was the conservatives (and the Prime Minister at the time was one of the most right-wing, conservative leaders we've ever had here; he just hated guns for some reason) so go figure. As a result, lever action and pump-action rifles are very popular here as while they're not semi-autos they can still spit out rounds much faster than bolt-action rifles while staying on target and tend to hold a decent number of rounds in their tubular mags.

I'm looking at purchasing an Ar15. I really don't want to build one up. I will likely be shooting cans and cardboard with it. I want one that is reliable, and will always work. I don't like to buy things twice. I was looking at bushmasters but everyone is telling me they are over priced prices of shit. Any suggestions, I don't mind spending a few extra for quality. I was also looking into the sig556.
Anyway, I'd pay the extra $$$ for a pony on the receiver if I was going to get another AR.

Personally, I know people love the piston guns, but...the military, although talking about a new rifle, have yet to adapt one. Will the piston rifle take off? Who knows. I personally bought the old gas style just because I know there is a plethora of parts. If the piston craze goes by the wayside, parts may become expensive and hard to find. Not saying it won't take off, but just being cautious. Personally I have a Rock River Arms Operator 2, being my personal duty weapon I have it all decked out. If you are looking for the no frills cheap AR, DSA sells a $775 M4, M&P sport $635 (cheapest I found), and the DPMS Panther Oracle Rifle 570.99. I know NJ has goofy laws, but I am sure you can call each manufacturer about pricing of the above rifles that are NJ compliant. Just my 2 cents.
