My new Saiga-12 shotgun
I just got my gun back from gun smith. I took to get a full pistol grip conversion done it. The ATF wanted to ban them earlier this year because they felt the S12 was not a "sporting gun". So the manufacturer in Russia, Izhmash, put "sporting" stocks on them and moved the trigger back.
Stock and boring
After buying some new clothes and accessories, she went from orphan Annie to The Baroness in no time. Amazing how fast they grow up.
Tapco telescoping stock and SAW pistol grip.
Tromix trigger guard.
Tapco trigger group.
MD Arms V-Plug gas adjuster.
Carolina Shooter Supply gas puck.
Tromix oversized charging handle.
Magpul angled vertical grip.
JTE power hammer spring.
10-slot flash suppressor.
Krebs Ghostring sights.
Intrafuse handguard.

I want one. I fired one with the 20 round drum and the thing is awesome. If you hold on...it will unload all of the rounds before the first can settle on the ground. I live in Oklahoma and they are not cheap at all. I was in Ohio when I fired it and I found one at a gun show for $700.00.

I bought all my parts through carolinashooterssupply.com
If you go to Saiga 12>Conversion kits, it will show all the basic kits. I bought the #2 kit. Everything else was separate. The gunsmith only charged $160 for doing the full conversion and adding the sights and stuff.

Is it a smooth bore or does it have rifling? Can it shoot slugs? I only ask because this would be one great gun to carry around for bear protection up here...???

It is smooth bore and will shoot slugs and buckshot just fine. Some Saiga's will not shoot birdshot right out of the box, however. The company put a pretty strong spring in it to run heavy loads, but lighters loads have some trouble do to manufacturing issues. But, those can be remedied with some work. Some earlier models were known for leaving with either under-drilled gas ports, gas ports drilled wrong or not at all. That can be fixed with some drilling. Second reason is because of the stock gas puck and gas plug. Aftermarkets plugs and pucks allow you to adjust more precisely the amount of gas you allow into the chamber to shoot lighter loads. Saiga-12.com is the best source for information.

Dan, we all go through dry spells. You will have to post a pic when you get past yours -
Of course you won't be able to take a picture because you will have the same stupid grin I had on my face when I first bought it.
