Guys, it break my heart because I went out and settled on a lesser model thinking this one would never come up for sale but exactly 1 week after I bought the Marlin 1895 GBL, the STP comes up for sale in Alaska.

This is the Marlin 1895 STP 45-70. Only 501 were made.mit was a special edition created specifically for Davidsons. It differs from the others in the following ways
Barrel length is 16.5 in versus mine which is 18.5.
It's stainless steal with a great grey laminated stock.
It has a pic rail on top with infrared sights.

Others have claimed this rifle has gone for almost 2k in auction. I want to buy this real bad but the reality is that I already have one which is similar and can't splurge on another 45-70 for $1200.

everything I have seen about these rifles hasn't been good. Marlin went to shit recently, dunno why.

This rifle was made before the Remington take over. When Remington bought out Marlin, there was some sabatage of parts I believe or integration to Remington's quality control.

I put 50 rounds through my Marlin 1895 on Saturday and it was awesome. Not one problem to complain about aside from ammo costs.
