Great Day Shooting!
Just wanted to say that we (me, my 17 yr son and 15 yr daughter) had a blast shooting (target) yesterday. Hadn't done it in forever and felt they were ready.
Everyone got to fire the AR-15, AK-47, Lever Action 30.30 and the 12 Gauge pump!!
Dang ammo costs a lot (at least at the range). I spent over $200 !!!

yep, it's an expensive hobby these days. i'm really hoping the price of ammo goes down but i fear that it may not with Nobama in the whitehouse. oh well. just like food, gasoline, shelter, and clothing......ammo is a necessity to me and i guess i'd pay for it regardless the cost.

Glad to hear you had fun! I just finished a post in another thread and said shooting can be good quality family time.
I feel your cash pain- I've been trying to figure out the break-even point for reloading, but I don't shoot nearly enough for that. Though as the price of ammo goes up, the gap towards buying a press shrinks!

Great to hear that your family can participate in the great shooting sport. My whole family shoots steel plates through the winter months here. Consider reloading if the price of ammo is too great. I bought my son a Lee Classic Turret press, dies for 9mm, 40 S&W, .45 ACP, and .223 Rem., two pounds of powder, 100 bullets for each caliber, powder scale, powder measure, reloading manual, case lube, and primers for all the above calibers for just a bit over $350 for Christmas. The payback doesn't take long at all. I've loaded with a Lee Turret for years, put up thousands of rounds with it, and it still works like new. Caliber changes can be made in a minute by switching a new turret in, dies don't need to be adjusted all the time. Great setup and economical too.

Thats great you take your kids shooting. My Dad started taking my brother and I shooting at a very very young age and I will always remember it. It was our version of tossing a baseball in the back yard. You are giving your kids some great memories.

I know what you mean about the cost....and how fast you go through it!!
Hubbo and I go to the range once a week and spend about 100.00- and thats with free range time I need to get a job there....and start re loading

Actually no. I've had both for over 18 years so I have the original clips that came with them. The AR15 has 20 round clips and the AK has 30. My understanding is that, while I cannot buy additional clips over 10 rounds, I am grandfathered in with what I already had - pre ban.

I shot on Saturday with a group that shoots in the International Defensive Pistol Association. That is a very cool style of shooting as well as very practical. If you shoot pistols and are interested in home defense, you should check it out.
