A couple of cans of bear spray would PROBABLY be adequate enough to deter an attack. However, if you want to pack heat in bear country, most folks carry a .44 mag as a side arm or get a 12 ga. pump shotgun pull the plug and load it with 5 or more 3" slugs.

The 44mag. pistol & the 12ga. shotgun WITH SLUGS, would be an excellent bear defense combo pack!

Might I remind all of you touting bear spray the thread title, "Bear Gun Recommendations". I believe in trying to find a non lethal way out but spray ain't what the OP was askin about. Sprays are probably a more effective way to stop a bear........a normal one, but what if it's rabid? It has been known to happen. When it comes to bears, I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. I'd just hate to see somebody splattered all to hell with some bear spray in their hand.

are bears aint to big in az, and ive only seen 3. theres one that by my friends cabin that we see once a year, just never during bear seaon... figures.

but i like the bear spray idea i just dont like the idea of waiting till its 15 feet away.

i have a ruger blackhawk in .45 colt with buffalo bore ammo, 325 gr at 1325 feet per second, it used to be $50 for 50, now its $80 for 50. its alot of fun to shoot those.

1st choice- gun

backup- bear spray

3rd- shit my pants and hope the bear dont like the smell.
