Default Ammo Storage

Where do you guys store your ammo? I have a 20 gun safe with shelves but with rifles, shotguns, pistols, holsters, knives, cleaning supplies there is very little room for ammo. I have about 500 rnds of .40, 1000 rnds of .22, 1000 rnds of 5.56, 200 rnds of .17HMR, 1000 rnds of various 12GA/.410 shells, etc.

Been thinking about some type of locking cabinet I could mount on the wall next to the safe (which is in my garage). Any ideas or suggestions from the experts?

I store all my ammo on a bookshelf for now. If I were you I'd store all the rifle/handgun ammo in the same and all the shotgun shells somewhere else. Your shotshells are probably taking up a ton of room.

Oh, and I just saw that you're in TX. If it were me, I'd have the safe in my house. The garage is nice but I'm not sure about the Texas heat and how that would affect your guns and ammo. Plus, I am bad at leaving the garage door up and people driving by might be enticed by seeing a safe.

Try to find a cool and dry place for long term ammo storage. This might mean in the house. If its in the garage keep it off the slab and coverd. As far as heat goes, as long as its not exposed to direct sunlight it should be fine.

THIS!!!

the cans are cheap, and air tight. Well packed quality ammo with dry packs, should last for a decade or two!!!
