1911 in 9mm?
1911 in 9mm?
i believe the 4" version was originally designed for 9mm and the full size .45.
thoughts? any real drawbacks? magazines, mag well openings, accessories etc. hard to find?
I am thinking of trading in the Glock 17 for a Kimber Tactical II Pro in 9mm. Pro meaning the the 4". The tactical is lighter with an aluminum frame.

Kimber makes a solid 1911 - doesn't really matter which model of it you get from them. Is there areason to limit yourself to a 1911? With a number of quality and depenadable 9mm out there and tons of stuff to support it - Maybe a good alternative?
I don't beleive you can match the Mag capacity of other models - SA XDm - hold 19 of 9mm in the mag!
Definitely chaper to shoot in 9mm though no matter what brand gun it's from.

i have always liked the 1911 style. the mag capacity isnt really an issue. if it were i would just keep my glock. 17 round magazines are easy to come by these days.
no i like the idea of a 1911 in 9mm due to cost and recoil (i plan on using it for once a month weekend competitions, idpa)

aren't you afraid he's gonna get picked on by all the other 1911's?!
i'm sure it will shoot fine, the design is rock solid and has withstood the test of time (and war). but, i dunno, it just seems wrong to get a 9mm 1911. if you're punching paper, fine. if you plan on using it for anything else, it's an easy choice between 9mm and .45....

Personally I would go with the 45. Like others have said, the 1911 and 45 go together like peanut butter (pre-salmonella) and jelly.
9mm might be cheaper but there are tons of better 9mm guns out there. Browing HiPower, Beretta 92, etc.
Now if I had unlimited funds and could blow money on a 1911 in 9mm of course I would I'd also get it in a 38, 22lr. And get an AR-15 in 9mm and 22lr.
