I love my 60CSX

 

I started off with a Magellan SporTrac. It was OK but it led me around in circles when I got near a cache. Friends with Garmins usually went right to it. I got a color unit, a Garmin 60CS that worked very well, but it needed an external antena if I was in the car or inside the apt. I got a Garmin 76CScx after that and it was a world of difference. The antenna is so sensative, I don't need an external ant in the car and in the house. Last year I got a DeLorme PN-20, but I haven't cached with it yet. It's the only one that comes with any detailed maps.

 

Good to hear...I've been leaning toward DeLorme. I have the Topo 7.0 software and love it. They seem to have the best deal on maps for the unit.

Heads up for anyone considering the PN-20. The new model PN-40 comes out this fall. No price announced yet, but there should be deals on the PN-20 when it hits.

I'm holding out for the PN-40. Sounds like they have made a lot of improvements. I'm hoping it's close to the current PN-20 price...

 

I have a Garmin CSx60 and I am very satisfied with it. I also use it for Geocaching and trail riding. Bought a Colorado 400t and did not like it at all.

 

Lowrance Baja 480C, works for me and I am not a electronics person.

 

I use a Garmin Venture HC. Its a cheap model, one w/o an internal compass, but it has the high sensitivity antenna. That helped meout a ton! I went out once before without the Garmin, and didnt find crap with a magellen xpolorist, but then again, I was a newb, still am.

For the money, this is a great GPS.

 

Just got the new Garmin 880... Expensive little bugger but couldn't pass up "just a little more" for speech recognition. Here's some picts:

Since window real estate is precious to me I didn't want to mount it above the dash -- besides thieves look for the tell-tale suction cup. Instead I tried an innovative approach to mounting. I need the black draw-ties tho.

Speech recognition is incredible I haven't attempted it while riding w/ the top down tho - doubt it would work.

It did sync up nicely with my Bluetooth phone so I can "talk" the phone number to call.

Works great so far -- only had it a few days tho.

 

I have the Garmin Nuvi 750. I love it, nice suction cup mount to the windshield, works good for going from where I am to where I need to be and in addition, it takes coodinates....

Used it from South Carolina back to Ocala and really enjoy everything. For on road, wish it picked up the traffic, but who needs another subscription....

 

After just having bought yet another GPS (Lowrance XOG Crossover) unit to add to my collection I have to say that the best option for me by far is a Pocket PC like my iPAQ hx4700. You have a choice of software packages and each is dedicated to do a particular job well. In my case, I run TomTom Navigator for turn by turn navigation and Memory Map for straight line navigation with detailed maps and satelite imagery of the UK. For my off-road pursuits in the US, I shall add the US Topo maps by Memory Map.

 

We use Garmin 60csx handheld & Garmin 260w for the jeep. very happy with both...
