What GPS do most of you use. im in the market for one but they all look a bit complicated to use. what are most of you using?

 

Good question. I'd also like to know the pro's/con's between a GPS specific unit and the GPS on some of the newer phones. I just upgraded phones and it has GPS capability...but for a monthly fee. Do you pay a monthly fee on the GPS only devices?

 

alot of us out here use the Garmin 60CSX and we are all very happy with it's features, performance and durability.

do a search using garmin and or 60CSX and you will find lots of comments and reviews on it.

I will check it out. it sounds like one of the popular names out there. now once you buy the device, you dont have to subscribe to anything right?

 

nope no scripts to pay but you may want to get more detailed map software.
the one that is included is pretty basic.

 

I noticed that on some threads when other members talk about trails and places to go, they type in numbers or coordinates for people to follow, how does that work? do we just type in the numbers and it will automatically show on the gps map?

 

What features are "must haves" and which are "nice to haves" when looking for a GPS unit for Geocaching? The reason I'm asking is to try to find something with an easier price tag then the models listed previously.

 

I am not one of those, I have the Magellan eXplorist 210. I like it, but I would like more memory. Detail maps (what tells you local street names) are large in the So. Fla area. With mine, it has a goto button, and once pressed you tell it where to go (POI, Geocache, point on background map, point in detail map). Plus it has NMEA Communications, which lets me plug it into my computer, and with a program, I can use it for live tracking. If you are looking for a good deal, then go to the for sale section, I noticed a cobra 1000 for sale with some sort of street ID software.

 

I have the Jeep Trail Guide and love it. I use it in the Jeep, the family SUV, and on my motorcycle, plus I can use it for GeoCaching.
Look on ebay, as they are much cheaper than the 800 than the dealer wants.
