Default Trip to Durango

I'm looking at moving out of Louisiana....I'm a single guy, 24yrs old, no kids and no attachments and so on! Well I work offshore out of Port Arthur, TX. I was thinking about when I get off on Feb 8th about taking a trip up to Durango, CO to see whats the town like.....I know all the trails are going to be closed, but not worried about going wheelin, just to check out the town and stuff....

So what it be a bad time just to go check things out??
Thanks

Do a real good weather check before heading into the mountains. Usually by noon the clouds start rolling in and it starts to get ugly. I dont know what route your taking but make sure you get over the passes before then.

I'm planning on leaving Louisiana through Shreveport to Dallas, up to Amarillo, over to Albuquerque and then take Hwy 550N right into Durango and might go look around in Montrose.

Are you driving your jeep? If not make sure you have some type of AWD. That area of colorado gets the most snow. MAke sur eyou have food and clothing for cold weather in case you get stranded somewhere. This is the real deal out here. you can get stuck very easy.

Thanks man! Yea I'm taking my Jeep...take a nice ride! But I'll take plenty of gear my jackets, MRE's and ext. The realestate lady said its pretty nice up there now and the snow is melting from the Dec snowfall record fall but a storm could pop up anytime and get nasty!
