So I put my iPad in front of "princess" to watch video and went inside to grab a drink and when I came back out "princess" was hiding in the corner giving me the finger

Do whatever makes you comfortable, but if you ride along, you may regret not bringing Princess once you see the trail. Peanut said there are go arounds. I think you would be just fine.
