It's roughly 3.5 hour trip one way. Three trains leave everyday from Durango to Silverton at 8:30am, 9:15am and 10:00am. We took the 9:15am trip up and the return trip left Silverton at 3pm - back in Durango at 6:30pm. So count on a full day if you do a round trip by train both ways. Or if you're short on time, you can take the train one way and ride the bus back - bus takes an hour - so it'll save you 2.5 hours.

Kids ride free is on select days for the 10:00am ride only I believe. Book in advance. I tried to book it a month out last year and they were all out.

WOW!!! I would've figured surely they have some seats . We just went ahead and paid for the kids seats at the normal price. Guess there's a lot more demand for that program that I thought!

LOL he was making sure that he was not going to fall out! Nothing like taking your kids on those trails and seeing them having the time of their lives, he was 7 months old when he rode his first trail.

I grew up riding in a Willy's 1942 Jeep, no seat belts, heater was good enough for the driver and passenger (Dad n Ma) wouldn't changes those memories for anything. How things have changed, and yet they remain the same

July 4th - I sure hope the trails are open by then!

Poughkeepsie and Black Bear opened last year around the 1st of July. We have had snow and more snow the last several weeks! I would say that the trail plowing is about 3 weeks behind last year at this point.

Time will tell, I'll post some trail plowing progress as soon as the county road crews start giving status.

http://ouraycountyco.gov/Home/2011%2...20Schedule.pdf

Here is the link to the Ouray County Road Department and their first update. Good pictures at the bottom.

(They don't list Poughkeepsie - it is not plowed - cleared by nature!)

We need sunshine and warmer weather!!
