There's a group of us going the the San Juan Mts on July 15-16 from the Great Lakes Region. We're meeting up with a mixed group of 4x4's from Denver.

Where's the best place to set up a base camp?

Ouray or Lake City are both good spots for a base camp. If you prefer a remote location, consider camping near Alta Lake close to Telluride but if you'd like to be closer to civilization, Ouray or Lake City would be better.

By the way - the train folks are offering buy one adult, and a kid rides for free. Gina and I are going to do that this trip. Always wanted to - never done it...

The train ride is awesome - splendid views and just has a rustic feel to it. Kids will love it - be sure to get some glasses if you're in the open cab though




And it's always fun when the Engineer sprays water out the sides!!!

Love that Poughkeepsie trail. Here's a shot of us coming down "the wall." I call this one "listen to your spotter" lol, Ouray is only a few weeks away now. Can't wait.
