Ok All,

The wife and I are going to Moab in 2009 for "Easter Safari" and will be driving out and back in our Unlimited JK for a total of about 4200 miles round trip. That does'nt count the off road miles. Anyway

My question is what trails to do, but their is a hitch. My wife just had two back operatioins in the last seven weeks, and we can not do any real hard wheeling. She will be better my Easter Safari 2009 but not enough to do any real rock pounding wheeling. Is their Scenic Trails that we could do ? If so , can someone please point us in the right direction.

This may be our only trip to Moab and we would like to make the most of it......

 

My wife and her sister picked up a book of Moab Trails by"Charles A. Wells" it's a great book, but their is SO MUCH information in it that we did'nt want to overlook anything.

Thanks for your suggestions on some trails Toad we will bookmark them in the Well's book. I just got my letter from Red Rock 4-Wheelers saying that we are on the mailing list for the Easter Safari, so that's a start....

If you think of anything else please don't hesitate to chim in....

 

Toad, am I correct that you need to pick your trails before going to Easter Safari ? If so what if a trail you want to do is FULL, will thet give you a chance to pick another ?

If you contact the red rock four wheelers and get on their mailing list. They send out a newspaperwith trail descriptions and a schedule of trail runs. You fill in the forms of which trail and day and they put it into a lottery draw.
Please don't tell anyone else. Those of us who live here in Utah have been trying to keep this whole Moab thing to ourselves!!!!!!

Maybe we can hook-up for the ride out. Their may also be a couple NJJA members going. We can make it a NJ Jeep Safari.

 

Don't worry about working on your JK. From what I am told a stock or near stock JK can do alot in Moab.....

I have got to stick to scenic rides, because the wife just had two back operations in seven weeks. I know she will be doing better by Moab, but it's a long ride out and back and I just can't take the chance that something would happen to her.....

 

There is no way to only go to Moab once!!!! You WILL find a way back after this trip!

Hi Boots, I'm in a similar situation. My wife is having a second mastectomy with reconstructive surgery next week. This also affects her back greatly for reasons I shall not get into (too long a story). I am considering what plans to make for my next trip out to Moab also.

What trails you want to do depends on your level of experience. If you're comfortable with side slopes and steep ascents and descents you should be fine on rocks. The danger there is not losing traction but having a LOT of traction. Trails like Hell's Revenge and Fins and Things would be fine for your wife as the surface is very smooth. Trails like Strike Ravine are very bumpy and that could be painful for her. I guess your criteria is the same as mine: "no harsh bumps".

Your round trip of 4200 miles will be a challenge for your wife too I should think. You can fly into Moab from Denver....
