Black Bear Backwards requires an experienced driver and at least a rear locker. That trail day is BB Backwards to Poughkeepsi then back down BB back to Telluride. I think the registration was $200 plus.

I hope they do it again!

We just did BB today - fun - but a lot more fun backwards.
Thanks for the info....
I have 90% given up on the Rotary club responding to my requests.
I am not one that likes to just show up to things like this since it usually doesn't work out.
It sounds like Black Bear will be open for normal traffic by the time I get to the trail head.
Which was my main question to start with...
Black Bear pass and Ophir pass are the last two main trails in this area I haven't been on so it should be a good day...
thanks again.

Hi ColoradoJeepWife and ezav8tr
I have gained a little more information on the Telluride Rotary Club reverse run of Black Bear, albeit nothing I can really use for us joining the club.

Submitted by EmilyC on Fri, 07/13/2012 - 16:35.
Hi, Mike. We have contacted the director about details and have not heard back. As far as we know this is going to happen. The only reason events can be up on our calendar is if the event promotors submit them to us and this was submitted months ago. We will update you if we find out any information about this............

Thus, our plan is forgo trying to contact this group and go back to our original plans which will be to run Ophir pass to HWY 550 and then take Black Bear Pass (the normal way) back to Telluride. I firmly beleive that Black Bear will be reopened by 11.. if not sooner.
We have tentative times we figure we will be at the trail heads but we can adjust those in order to meet up with you guys. our current times are Ophir at about 9:30am (latest) .... Black Bear Trail-head no later then Noon.

ezav8tr - Jaden I received your email.. I will text you shortly.

Hoping this works out and we're looking forward to meeting everyone and doing a few trails.

We also hope to see anyone else interested.
I will keep this updated with our latest plans and times.

It was on their calendar last year and it did not happen!

At any rate the trail would / should reopen before 10 am. 11 AM would be safe!

Have fun!

We have also given up on running the pass in reverse, so we are willing to do Ophir to Black Bear on Saturday. There is an FJ cruiser summit event that weekend in Ouray. We'll be overrun by Toyotas! COuld be a crowded day on the trail.

I contacted the FJ event and it sounds like they will be off BB early. Here's what they said:

We will have groups on both Black Bear and Imogene on Thursday, Friday,
and Saturday mornings. Our groups depart Ouray between 7am and 9:30am.
We will send groups of around 10 trucks every 30 minutes or so. We run
both of those roads from Ouray to Telluride, and then come back on Ophir
pass for each. So if you are looking to take those road and are trying
to avoid our groups, the it's best to run them from Ouray to Telluride
in the morning. We're generally off of them after lunch, so that makes
it possible to return to Ouray on them without running into our groups.

Also the rotary finally sent me a reply that the event is NOT happening.

sounds like we will be going in the opposite direction and our timing will work perfect..
ie FJ's towards Telluride early via BB and Imogene, and we are headed to HWY 550 via Ophir early.
perfect
