Howdy from Texas!

I need some help with trail recommendations if you can help.

I am planning to go to the Durango-Ouray area at the end of May into early June, and then make my way around to Breckenridge and then back to Texas. I had hoped to go over the pass from Crested Butte to Aspen, but I think there will be way too much snow that high.

Can you recommend any particular trails which you feel would have a reasonable chance of being passable at that time. Any advice is welcome, and I realize that you have had unbelievable amounts of snow this year, with a huge snow pack remaining. But any tips and trail recs would be great!

Thanks in advance.

That time of year is not good for that area, The only pass that may be open is Ophir...., Black Bear and Poughkeepsie are usually well into July before they are open... But it all really depends on how much snow fall they had this year

Here are a couple of good web sites to keep an eye on

ouraycolorado.com/Jeep+Road+Conditions

bushducks.com/tripreps/passopen.htm

on bushducks, you cn look at past years to see when the trails were opened up to give you an idea of which trails might be open around that time.

ya, they've gotten way to much snow last winter. most trails won't be open.. the upside is it would be a great time to go to Moab. It's not that much further and lots of fun.

I used to live in Gunnison and was hopeing to get over Pearl this year but everyone says they doubt it will open at all this year. You could do Italian Creek or Cement Creek out of Crested Butte and I think that would drop you down into Taylor resivior and then run Taylor Pass into Aspen, if Italian Creek isn't open and probably won't be at that time you could run out of Almont to the Taylor resivior and then Taylor Pass into Aspen. Hope it helps been about five years since I've had a chance to run them. Have fun I miss it more all the time.

That's an awesome idea.

Plus I can get in a little fly fishing on the way!

Keep 'em coming. This is very helpful.

Thank you!

Does anyone else have any other suggestions??

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Mark

May I please have one last bump? I'm heading out this Friday morning.

I am still hoping to stay in Colorado for logistics purposes (another Texas Jeeper is going to get there 2 days after me).

Was anyone out there this past weekend hitting the southern Colorado trails, especially any of those mentioned above??

Thanks!!!

I wasn't out there but I do know they were still getting snow a few weeks ago so I'm not holding my breath for them to be open even when I get out there in July. Have a great time I'm sure you'll find some great area's to run. There is so much good stuff out there. I'd still stop at Gene Taylors in Gunny and they should be able to let you know what's open or the local DOW office is there also. Blue Mesa Four Wheelers takes care of a lot of the trails there and may have listing in the phone book. Let us know how it goes.

I live out of Durango and we got a foot of snow friday. The best thing to do is to call the jeep tour companies in Ouray. If there is any trails open they wil be making money with them. Im hoping to be in the Ouray area around the 3rd or 4th of june to play a little while I am home from Alaska.
