Got the bear spray. It's the size of a small fire extinguisher.

Ranger Ron that we've met before used rubber bullets and shot the last bear with them. Scampered away pretty fast. We are talking black bears and not polar or brown.

I rigged my backpack to carry a glock .45, an extra mag, and a tactical LED flashlight on the left shoulder strap. I have hiked with it blatantly exposed like that a few times with no issues from anyone passing by. When you are in the woods people seem to understand and are pretty tolerant. I wouldn't worry at all.
