Default Dont tempt me......

..... "Just drop it off, give me about a week, maybe a tad more if you want the de-rust/paint and it will be done"

Aw.. would it be that easy

Was looking at next year to do stuff once the warranty was fully up. BUT ....

What would you think the ride with this kit would be like without the weight of the steel front bumper, as I'm not to sure in what direction I want to go with mods as yet, just started dipping my toe into wheeling and this is my DD so initially thinking I dont want to be carrying around too much weight, for something that would only get occational use, plus would possibly clobber my MPG.
Also once your fully operational, would like to see what affect it has made on your MPG with local driving
I know I want the lift, rear carrier & as the diff covers are off for that front bracket may as well go for some armour.

Apart from the bumper etc was there any original parts left over / not used ?

Haha, can see your tempted.

I can't really say about the kit without the bumper, but since the diesel is heavier than the petrol, might want to ask some guys who are running the kit with a petrol as you know it will be similar. It wont matter if its a LHD or RHD kit they have the same springs and shocks so will be the same. I believe it wont affect it too much.

Yeh the Jeep is my DD as well so hopefully the mileage wont be affected too much.

The front diff cover does not have to come off if you are using the stock covers, you just remove the bolts without disturbing the sealant and then the cover goes on top. But if you are wanting the cover under or are using after market covers then yes you need the cover off.

Not much left over really.

Default See that now....

..... Just went over installation instructions again & its made that clear on how it fits..
It was just with yours being fitted behind those nice ARB's.

Too right I'm tempted.

With the gearing now being effectively higher. I wonder if the MPG would improve on longer runs or counter having more rubber in contact with the tarmac !

Will patiently wait till you've MOT'd it and given it a thorough road test on all surfaces & speeds. So hope the testing goes well & problem free

AEV should give you some goodies or credit note as good will for alerting them, (in detail) to the issues. Its only good business !

Also, how does the Bilsten damper differ from the OME ?

Going to have to make some decisions in the near future....

AEV discounted the price of the bilstein for me, I probably could have got it free but didnt want to haggle really, it wasnt much anyway. Want to try and get some work experience with them next summer
As far as the differences, it just looks better and matches the shocks, it will do the same job.

Before the lift, the Jeep got a lot of looks. Now pretty much everyone looks....sometimes rather disapprovingly, especially the ramblers

Gonna put a safari rack on your's? I've got one being fabricated. Hoping it'll be finished this coming week with a bit of luck.

Would like to but my garage in Edin is 6' 11", I know that theoretically I should have room but want to check with the lift+tyres first, then maybe get a roof rack with light bar. Are you building it yourself or showing a shop what you want and they are just making it?

No, I've designed it together with a friend who runs a metal work shop. It's going to be pretty close to the Gobi rack with some minor tweaks. Unfortunately, I have a drive but no room to put a decent garage like your's. Would love to have more space in my workshop. Wouldn't mind that little Mini of your's, either!

When it's done I'll do some pics and if you like it it might save you a packet instead of having to import one from the US. I'm sure the guy at the shop would be able to do a 4 door version, especially after he's got the experience of doing mine.

Default New damper

Actually the dealers just replaced the steering damper on mine, a TSB apparently.
Was going to mention Jeep were replacing them in S.Africa anyway but they beat me to it.
I wonder what make they've replaced it with as its got a black cover.

Mine had that done quite a while back, maybe 9 months or so That was the third stock one I have had, the original leaked oil everywhere....
Think the black cover is just to stop muck getting onto the piston, however I think it might have a tendency to collect it instead.

Been out driving a bit more, all I can say is I am very happy, the ride is perfect, don't really notice the wider wheels until you hit a curb! In the bends I was keeping up with a cayenne and didn't feel unstable at all. Even on the hilly and narrow Devon lanes it was getting about 24-5mpg. The snorkel intake is quite noticeable with the window open but I quite like it.

Need to find some greenlanes around here to have a play on.

Just order it online, mate. I found a company doing them, rang 'em up, told 'em what I wanted, gave 'em vehicle reg plus my name and address and it arrived a week later. Didn't need to provide 'em with any documentation at all. I have the same fairlead bracket as you, BTW. I ordered a street legal 11" x 8" plate and it fits nicely.

My LOD Mod-Width plus winch gets installed tomorrow morning.
