BTW, I spoke to one guy on the phone who used to sell a bumper with hoop similar in style to the ARB which was made by Crown USA. He was selling them on ebay UK. I called him and asked if he still sold them as I wanted to see if he could get one without the hoop.

His reply was that he'd stopped importing them as he'd been warned they were illegal to run on a JK in the UK and he was currently in talks with Crown to see if they would manufacture one without the bullbar/hoop.

 

Yeah but I'm guessing all those hoops are TUV approved and will crumple on impact with a pedestrian, thus rendering them useless as armour for your Jeep. At that point they're just fancy decorations and serve no actual purpose other than reducing your MPG..

 

X2 I will wait and let someone else fight the court case.

Just have to find something without a hoop that I like, post some pics once you have your LOD fitted

The sidesteps were on the Jeep when I ordered it and are looking crap as all the chrome is flaking off but I will deal with them another time.

I finally got the front trackbar bracket working for now, the AEV guys are still trying to figure out what is wrong with the hardware. Also sort of bodged the steering stabiliser mounting aswell. It is now on all four wheels and once I get the brakes bled and finished off I shall take it for a test ride in the next few days, hope it is as good as I have been hearing!

The mileage I prob wont be able to comment on really. The last two years living in center of Edinburgh I have been getting about 20-21mpg. Before that when I did a 70 mile commute (round trip) to college in Aberdeen I was getting 26-28)
Down here in Devon the lanes are so small and with all the pensioners going 20 everywhere I will stuggle to get an accurate figure. Will be doing fairly regular trips from Devon to Edin so will let you know what it is like on the motorway.

And as for this bumper debate, as this forum is showing, no-one has a clue so might as well stop going on about it as it is just raising more awareness....

 

Front panels cleaned, primed, and painted. Need more primer to to the rear.











Electrics all done. Switches are for reverse cam, rear LED light, CB+LED interior lights. Round switch for spots, ON, OFF or ON with high beam.





Bolts arrive from a-series spares. Not really an exact match but drilled out the holes on the bracket a bit to make it work. had to use bottle jacks to bend the bracket into shape to get all the holes to line up for the bolts.





Botched job with washers to make up for the bolt being too short and not having the right size nut. Hopefully it will work for the meantime.



New brake discs should be arriving any day but will make do with the old for now (not much wrong with them). I will need to take them off anyway as the wheel speed sensor is on backorder (prob at least a few weeks with the ABS light on and not working!)



FINALLY on all fours!









Control arms brackets in. Took a bit of work getting the bolt near the exhaust out! Ingenuity with ratchet straps was needed as one person cant do everything.













Bit concerned about the front driveshaft angle, cant be good on the rubber boot in the CV joint

Any reason you did not go for a rear bumper as well as the tyre carrier?

Weight, expense, not really needed. Also it would have added a lot of hassle with relocating license+fogs.
Plus one less thing to rust! Might end up getting one if I do major expeditions but not really needed at the moment.

 

Looking forward to the testing and reasons for AEV kit issues.
Surely you can't be the first to come up against this.

They've got to get it right for future possible purchasers.... not being selfish
