Default AEV Front bumper on a UK spec JK

I new this was going to be expensive but I didn't expect it to cost me a new camera too! Dropped the ruddy thing and it didn't bounce!!
Anyway I love the bumper....
I also fitted the skid plate and a warn 9500ti. At some point and I'll sort the wiring out putting fixed internal and external switches and do away with the crappy wandering lead.














I left off the front caps as we do not have the crush cans on our front bumper and the aproach anlge is much better without them. Hopefully the lift kit and wheel/tyre combo are not to far off.

Ohh and here's a crappy pic of the 100" so it doesn't feel left out!



I wish I could get that winch in the AEV bumper, they are such much better.

congrats that looks very nice.
what is the powdercoat like? do you think it will hold up against the salt?
also with the winch, what the difference between the 9.5ti and 9.5si apart from the price is there a soleniod with the ti and the si has a digital box?

ps. that 100 looks cool, i was thinking of getting a new one instead of jk but its not very comfortable and they rust real bad. what do you like better??

I've had the L/Rover for over 15 years originally as a V8 110 and then rebuilt it in 2001 on a genuine chassis shortening it to 100" and then getting it galvenised. I would struggle to let it go and it has been an utterly brilliant vehicle. It is however hopelessly out dated. I could have bought a new 90 instead of the JK, but, without bigging it up my 100" is a superior vehicle to anything L/R have ever produced.

With a 3" ish lift and the ability to run 35" tyres and probably a 2009 V V T 5.7 hemi I think it should make a worthy sucessor!

The si has the
M.O.S.F.E.T. (Metal-Oxide Semiconductor Field- Effect Transistor
The most regular failing on Warn winches in the past has been their solenoids. On the competion vehicles and the 100" we run Allbright contactor units which are far more reliable. I looked at an si but it is a lot more expensive, were not in stock and this vehicle is not going to do 50 pulls a day like the 100" has and the buggy does, if I was going that route I'd have bought a Warn bumper and an 8274

The powder coating is very well finished, If I were being picky I would say the welding could have been neater. The

Number plate........ I had cable tied it on for the weekend, pulled it off to take some pics. This and the winch wander lead are the two things outstanding. Going to play about with different sized and shaped no plates next week. This is the rear now!

i found a pic of the aev bumper in france, they mount the no. plate near the skidplate. but not sure how. also i guess you would need to make it removable it you put it there. just a thought. and are those the stock tyres that come with the rubicon? mine came with bridgeston duelers and i have to say that they worked surprisingly well in the snow.

May have to ponder the number plate issue and await inspiration!

Yep the tyres are Good Year and whilst I was a bit dubious they have proved to be a pretty good all round tyre, that said I haven't used it in snow or any deep mud. Should have the 255/85x16 BFG MT's mounted on my mates new Compomotive wheels which I'll try to post a pic end of the week, looking forward to that as I hope to have the same setup as my everyday tyre.
Getting a tad impatient waiting for the AEV rhd 3.5" lift kit now!

ok. im still wondering what tyre to run down the line. initially i was gonna go with 305/65r17 bgf all terrain on the aev pintlers but im having second thoughts. ive never run an M/T tyre on the road so im wondering what to do
i use the jeep for everyday driving and mainly country roads for now, but when i start uni im gonna be doing a regular trip from edinbrugh to aberdeen about 200 miles. and also i use them in quite thick snow/ice in winter. the aev's will be the wheels i run most of the time. im considering a good winter tyre for the stock 18's but cant find any. are narrow tyres better for snow? do you have any recommendations for what to do?

it must suck waiting on aev lift when did you order everything

Ordered the stuff mid March, bank transfer was circa 20th. Not the end of the earth but having paid a fair chunk of money out I want the kit on and to start using it. I and a few mates have organised a trip to Scotland (NW of Fort William) in July and desperately want the kit on for then!

Tyres........ My thoughts for what its worth.. For hard packed snow/ice you need a narrow tyre reasonably open (AT ish) tread with lots of siping. If you look at the tres they run on rally cars on snow/ice stages you get the idea. For deep virgin snow you want a wider section heavy pattern (MT ish) Because we normally get a mixture of both you can never get a tyre that excells in all conditions. I have run Michelin,Cooper, General and BFG on 4x4s over the years and way prefer a MT tyre. I stll like a relatively narrow version for the majority of use here hence going for a 255/85x16 35/37x12.50s look cool but I'm not conviced on the congested roads of the UK when the weather is crap is the best way forward. Problem is 255/85x16 really need a 7" rim hence the Compomotives.
All 4x4 tyres rated M&S are designed for use in colder conditions and because of this the rubber compound still grips in minus conditions something that cannot be said for a normal car tyre. Because of this whatever you choose your ahead of the majority + you have a top 4x4
