Casparis & Hawkins Hollow Run (last?) -- Nov 10th
Hey guys, i want to get out to Hawkins Hollow one more time before it might be closed for good. While we are there, we can do the main loop in Casparis as well.
For those that haven't been, this may be your last chance to run Hawkins Hollow. This is a fairly easy trail, but has 2 very nice river crossings along with the railroad bridge. There is a trail leading up to the main loop of Casparis, and we could explore that if we want, but I've been told not to do it unless everyone has rock sliders and/or willing to get some under belly scratches.
For those of you that have been, I hope you can make it back out again.
So, my plan is to head down there on the 10th. If anyone is interested (and the weather isn't freezing) we can camp as well. Jason B. that Gary (a buddy of mine) and I meet on the last trip there suggested a nice camping spot (that is legal), so if anyone wants to spend the night and drive home after a good rest, that's fine.
So, going there, i plan on the same 3 meeting spots as before:
1) Maryland Welcome Center on I-70W (lat=39.5245998541, lon=-77.6012873477for GPS) at 7:00am and leaving at 7:30am.
2) Sideling Hill Center (lat=39.71814726, lon=-78.2801870585 for GPS) on
I-68W around 8 and leave at 8:30.
3)Sheetz in Connellsville (1002 W Crawford Ave, Connellsville, PA 15425)
around 10 to 10:30.
I know this trip is several weeks away, but i wanted to bring it up now so that everyone has ample time to put it on their calenders.
So reply back if you plan on attending. Hope to see you all there!

well... from allentown, might as well say the other side of the state from there. Just do a google map search of "Casparis, PA" and it'll center you a little south east of Connellsville, PA. Its an abandoned mine and town which has been converted mostly to state game land. There is this huge network of trails up there, sadly, half of them are limited to ATVs. But there its still a great place to wheel.

Alex, I'm gonna do my best to make it, but won't know till that Thurs or Fri...I'm in the process of moving and Pgh-Offroad is doing a camping run at Casparis the weekend before this if you care to join us, let me know and I'll give you details.

It is definitely a haul from this side of the state, last time I left at 4:30 am and didn't get back home until 2:30 am the following morning.
Right now it is looking like I probably won't make it. The wife thinks it would be too much time in the Jeep for the kids between the ride over there and back along with the time on the trail, she is probably right (I hate to admit that), the 2 yr old would do fine but the little one would have a hard time. Even with spreading it out over a long weekend it is still three straight days with at least 4-5 hrs in the Jeep.

This is a great trail for beginers, nothing to tough but some nice mudholes and small obstacles, I really wanna go again. I gotta keep working on the boss, I need to come up with someway to convince her.

Hey Alex,
I was looking at the Directions, and I don't think I'll make it that weekend. Just a little too much driving for me that weekend. However I had a great time wheeling with you all, and maybe next time.
