Default Interesting drive home today

So there I am stuck in stop and go traffic on the 401 in Pickering on my way home from work.

I'm in the fast lane at a complete stand still and all of a sudden....Wham! Not again I think. This guy is driving a GMC van (bell/rogers cable type van) and looks like he just shit himself he's so shocked. I get out to assess the damage and notice that he pushed me into the poor guy infront of me as well. Go to the back of my Jeep and instantly see his van is pretty screwed. Hood is bent in half, fluids all over the highway, and bumper is pretty banged up. Look at my jeep to assess damage, look again, look a little harder. Wow. Some minor scratches to my bumper (metal mopar) and thats about it!

Check the front, no damage at all....and none to the guy that I was pushed into. He tells me that he's gonna go since there is nothing unless I need him to stick around! Sure, go home...have a nice day!

Buddy that hit me is now beside me, patting my back saying "It's my fault, I'm really sorry" I tell him I know it was his fault because I was stopped! Ask him for his information and he says he doesn't have anything with him, but I could follow him to his buddy's body shop for his I.D.

Yeah right. I say no...now I smell the alcohol on his breath. I ask if he's been drinking and he looks offended. He says "no way man, I'm just on my way home from work". He then say's he want's to pay for any damages and doesn't want the police called since it's his work truck.

let me think about this....no I.D., reaks of booze, doesn't want cops called, wants me to follow him to some shop for his "I.D"....ummm NO.

He goes to his truck and gives me a buisness card, says "here's my information, we can work this out my brother is a cop". I look at the buisness card, and ask him his name....wouldn't you know it, it's different than the name on the buisness card...LOL. I've seen enough so I start dialing *OPP on my cell phone. He then tells me that the card belongs to a guy that works for him, but I can get in contact with him through this other guy!

As I'm pulled off to the shoulder and explaining the situation to the OPP dispatcher, I hear the screeching....WHAM. An accident 30 feet infront of me. Must have been a rubber necker. I later found out that all occupants in those 2 vehicles had to be taken to hospital...hope they are doing okay!

Buddy is now approahing my Jeep telling me to talk to his brother on his cell phone, because hes a cop ya know!? I tell him that I don't want to talk to him, he asks if I'm talking to the police and I say yes. The whole time the dispatcher is listening to our conversation. He says...awww shit! and heads back to his truck.

Returns to my Jeep again, and hands me a piece of paper. "I'm leaving, heres my information, the damage is less than $1500. (yeah right) and I know my rights". As I step out of my vehicle to stop him, a cruiser shows up code 3.

Ends up arresting the fool for drunk driving, finds 7 empty tall boy can's of beer "hidden" under the passenger seat...still with froth on them! LOL

I give my statement, and finally make it home nearly 3 hours late!

Will have to get a better look at my Jeep tomorrow and figure out my next step(s).

I need a beer

I think you should have a really close look at your springs, control arms and track bars. They just might be damaged. Dibs on the OME kit if you pull another one out of your hat with insurance, lol! Man, you have some luck. Glad you and the Jeep are ok, that just may have screwed the PA trip up for you.

That's crazy man. Glad to hear you and the Jeep are ok. It's absolutely crazy that in this day and age, some people are so stupid as to drive around like that.

Wow, nice. Love those steel bumpers!

As for turds like Mr. Drunk off his ass.....

I have had THE EXACT same thing happen to me at work.....TWICE.

First time I was in an unmarked car, no uniform, PARKED on the side of the road at the curb and complete wasted dude slammed into the rear corner of my car......he wanted to leave to, until I showed him my badge and told him he's not going anywhere (These badges are usefull Wayne hee hee) and he begged and pleaded.....but it wouldn't have mattered, his car was %100 written off and so was mine........working in the City on a Saturday night, one would expect no less I suppose.

The second time, I was in an unmarked car again, except I had full patrol uniform on AND rear shelf lights activated while I was dealing with an abandonned stolen car.

POW!! as I'm doing paperwork, again from the rear, a big pick-up truck. My car written off, his truck destroyed and before I can even get out he trying to drive away!! The second I regain my senses I'm stepping out and he sees me in uniform and suddenly stops and gets out lies flat on the ground and puts his hands on his head and starts yelling "I'm drunk, I'm sorry, I was going to leave but I didn't know" and I never said a word to him, I just left him where he was until some assistance could roll up....... wow.

But geez Wayne, strike two.....City driving sucks, that poor Jeep is getting......ummm, banged from the rear??..........constantly.

Glad you got another drunk off the street, people are just so far out there sometimes.

I know...me and my dumb luck!

Funny thing is I was chatting to Art on the phone about 5 minutes before this jackass hit me! LOL

Thaks for all the kind words guys, I'm actually really surprised at how well those steel bumpers held up. I had 2 seperate tow truck drivers take pics of my rear bumper and pics of buddy's hood. They couldn't believe it!

As far as the PA trip....I hate to say it, but it's gonna have to take more than some drunk ass hitting me to make me not go!

ya that sux
i would have sectioned 494 sub sec 1 2 0r 3 his ass
I have the right to arrest you for suspicion of drunk driving.

and i would have done what ever it takes to get him from getting behind the wheel and driving off....including running into him again ...because under the law you would be justified if you believed he was risk to cause harm to others.

some people just have such bad judgement
hope the JK is alright could have been a different story with a plastic bumper

and not to criticize you just offering advise plz don't be offended and i know it is tough to do in metro areas but mind your spacing and you would not have had a secondary impact with the vehicle in front of you also when stopped like that and with being at the back of the pack of stopped cars use 4 way flashers with foot on break and emergency brake on. and try to keep an eye on the rear. if you seen what was going on you could have pulled into the median if you had that spacing. accident avoidance is what it allways comes down to. not who is right or who is in the wrong,,,cause you can be dead right.

i have had this happen several times to me and that maneuver saved me every time being aware to what is going on around you is key to living.$

once i drove over a snow embankment and got stuck but the tractor trailer didn't hit me and hit the car that was in front of me, killed the rear passenger. cop was amazed i was paying that much attention.
then i had to pay $200 to get recovered to hard surface. but family and dog were all fine.

lots of yelling was going on when i drove off the high way ...till the sound of impact was heard.

how is your neck today?
hope ur ok
