well you could find a dealer to use there very expensive scan tool to change the country code on your JK....but i really think they are not allowed to.
you could completely rewire your head lamp system to avoid the Body Control Module. and then you can wire the head light drl off
you could also then wire the fogs up separately to come on later.
also drl are law as per both province and federal motor vehicle standards
so what that means if anyone caught on is you get a fine and have to turn it back
what it means insurance wise is that you t -bone a car and the occupants of the car say ur lights were not on and due to some weird atmospheric condition could not see ur JK but would have if u had lights on then your insurance is probably not going to cover you and then you could be fine for modification to that system
on the liter side you will probably save .0001 cents per 1 km by having them off.
but if you had the fogs on to replace and be on a drl system and on during operation you would be good
i forsee the use of a lot of relays and wire in your future.
enjoy.

Or you can buy the AEV Procal and turn it off that way. I am not too sureo n the laws here in Canada though, as far as I know all vehicles after 1990 or something are required to be built with them.

cheers
ps being that the JK head lights are so close together (compared to other vehicles on road) people think you are further away anyhow and still pop out in front of you even though you are an object that is closer than it appears
it may be your choice to defeat the safety feature but the feature isn't only there for you, it's for others too.
not preaching just saying, and hoping you wont give me the opportunity to be a real a$$ when i get a chance to be a smart mouth and say "i told ya so"
but then cops in the province don't look for that sort of thing on the hwy and federal gov has no money to patrol and enforce rules. and MTO deals with provincial law. wow another law that has a big hole in it...surprise.

Actually, I don't think that was meant to be funny. Can't speak from experience on the JK (except to say that I hate having lights shine in my eyes, and therefore despise DRLs), but amateur astronomers, who also need to keep all lights off when approaching/departing a star party, learned long ago that keeping the emergency brake on one click will turn off most DRLs.

I have a neighbor who drives a JK and works at a local DC dealership. I told him about my desire to replace the head lights to something else, I just haven't decided what that something else will be yet.
He said to come into the shop when he is working and he would change the vehicle preferences for me.

Wraithy, which law is that you quoted? Surely that can't be for DRL's?
There is a difference between what is required to be installed by the OEM, what is required to be working for a safety certificate, and what an owner is required to keep in good repair.
I've been driving my Focus trackday car without DRL's since... since I bought it in 2001. Never had a problem, and that's with it looking like a "Tuner/Street Racer" type car which the police don't like anyway.

I just checked the Ontario Highway act and there is nothing in there about DRL. You must have lights on 1/2 hour before it gets dark until 1/2 hour after it gets light, but nothing that I could see about DRL.
The MVSR Schedule 4 section 108 states that the daytime running lights are needed, but I do not know if this is just on newly sold vehicles or all vehicles. I know at one point vehicles manufactured as of a certain dated needed them.
