Default " death wobble " FYI

bought a used '07 JK and within the second week i had violent shaking after hitting bumps in the road. looked it up on youtube, turns up its called death wobble! (sounds safe) i took it back to the dealer, they said steering rack stabilizer, but have never heard of the death wobble. not covered. replaced with skyjacker stabilizer thinking that would fix the problem. drove it, problem still there, found all 4 ball joints were right out and it. Wendell jeep dealership in Kitchener ON sucks and wont help you once you buy a vehicle, nor can they properly figure out whats wrong with something they should have just safetied, and i will be fixing my own problems from now on.

Anyone else have the Death wobble?

Hey,

Has the suspension been modified at all? Things to check are a loose track bar, wallowed out holes where you track bar mounts, poor tire condition or poor balancing.

Also are you experiencing bump steer or a violent shaking of the front end? With a solid front axle you will experience some bump steer. The violent shaking or death wobble is not normal.

I've personally had it twice. Here's a great thread on the subject.

This great write up will explain all you need to know concerning DW. A much more knowledgeable write-up than most any Jeep dealers. https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-w...obbles-260145/

edit: oops... beat me to it...

4" is a lot of lift.

I would not do 4" w/o control arms/highsteer and most likely driveshafts.
Edit- track bars front and back as well.

You want a "complete" kit.

Teraflex/RK are my top 2 pics.

Yeah I'm a big anti RC guy. Had their 2.5" susp lift first, aweful ride, quality, durability....anyhow, I'm running 3.5"+ of lift now, but I pieced my own lift together. For 3.5" of lift and above, there's a lot that goes into it to maintain a nice handling smooth performer.

yea, i've been looking and reading non-stop about different lift kits, stock seems so lame, want something noticeable, i want to build this lift well, heard a lot of cheep lifts that crapped out on them. what do you think of EVO or skyjacker? to over priced for what your getting? 3.5" seems like a great size.
