Hello Canvas,
I served in the US Navy from June 73' to June 77'. I have my honorable discharge or DD214 if you need them. I left as an Engineman 3rd Class or E4. I served four years aboard the USS Coronado LPD-11. I worked out of the diesel and hydraulics shop all four years.

Starbuck, always great to have another vet onboard. I was a diesel mechanic on USS Coronado LPD-11 (amphibious landing ship) for four years. We usually embarked about 1,000 Marines at Moorhead City and sailed them anywhere they needed to be. I used to snipe Mike-6 boats and LCVPs myself. Did you ever enjoy one of our "Luxury Cruises"? never had that pleasure
i was down the coast from there for a couple of years, though. we were elmaco radio geeks at lejeune. we often visited a recon buddy of ours around onslow beach and would watch the hovercraft come and go. the amphibious craft were always trolling around base near our barracks. actually a very cool sound in the wee morning hours. …cool when that can of whoop-a$$ is on your side, anyway!
