Default is it still necessary to drill the mirrors?

I just picked up my 2009 the other day and was wondering if it is still necessary to drill the outside mirror extra weep hole on 2009 or if that isnt needed anymore...

I did it on my 2008 and it worked great..

I haven't heard of any changes. I say, wash it and see if the water continues to seem out of your mirrors for 3 days. If so, drill em'!

Yes, I got my new 2009 about a month ago now and the mirrors do not drain well.

I took them off and cut away some of the foam and made the notch larger with a blade. After looking at it I decided that some of the foam needed to go away because it can block a lot of water.

Here is a before and after pic:

Before: (The notch is completely blocked by the foam)

And after:

It's not necessary to drill the mirrors of any year, unless of course you do not want them to slowly weep and leave a whitish film on your washed JK.

I've never noticed water dripping out of the mirrors on mine. The top, well... that's another story.

Drill them!!!

I waited with mine to do it. There was a drip line down both doors but I figured it would wash off. It didn't. So far I have washed and dried it twice, and hit it with a clay bar once. It is faint but still there.

Even with the '09...stop what you're doing, grab a drill and Torx and drill them. It only takes a few minutes.

Drill um just because it's fun. I had my jk 2 weeks and my wife heard the drill, and then the head shaking started, been that way ever since. She got used to it with my CJ's.
