Misguided Towing Effort Rips YJ’s Frame Off
This Frame-Mangling Clip Proves Jeeps Have a Limit to Their Capabilities
In case you didn’t know, Jeeps aren’t idiot proof.
Sure, we’ve already shared more than a few cases highlighting that fact here at JK Forum. But this old video clip we came across in a recent Jalopnik report really helps drive that point home.
Then again, depending on where you’re from, maybe it’s perfectly okay to try to pull your Wrangler out of a mud pit with a rope tied around the Jeep’s sport bar.

Yep, that’s right. Instead of finding a solid place to tie the rope around the frame of the YJ, these guys thought it’d be a great idea to tie that rope right around the vehicle’s frame. So, when they tried to pull the older model Jeep out of the mud — voila!
Well, probably more of a “voila” if you were a spectator, and not the Jeep’s owner watching the entire disaster unfold. But either way… voila!
Apparently, the incident happened in the Azuza Canyon off-road park in California. And from the sound of the video (which includes some NSFW language), there were a lot of spectators on hand to see the entire thing go down.
That said, as our friends at Jalopnik point out, the frame did seem to come off pretty easily. Although, we imagine that the frame’s quick-release capabilities are of little comfort to the Jeep’s owner.
