Wrangler Step Bars Offer Big Convenience with Easy Install
Side steps are a great way to make it easier to get in and out of your Wrangler, and these are affordable and easy to install.
The JK-gen Jeep Wrangler easily ranks near the top of the heap when it comes to aftermarket support. Whether you want to make a few changes for looks, convenience, or capability, or just totally transform your rig, it’s all just a few clicks away. One of the more useful upgrades for the Wrangler are a set of side steps. Getting into your Jeep can be a pain without them, especially if it’s lifted. Luckily, the RedRock 4×4 Round Curved Side Step Bars outlined in this video from Extreme Terrain are a quick and easy way to solve that problem.
The video, hosted by XT employee Sara, kicks off by outlining the pros and cons of these particular side steps. “These steps feature a 3-inch tubular stainless steel construction with a textured black powder coat finish,” Sara notes. “They also include a non-slip pad for entry into your Jeep in all kinds of weather. So if you take your Jeep off-roading frequently or if you like some more aggressive trails, these might not be the right choice for you.”
Everything has a trade-off, of course. “These don’t offer as much protection as a rock slider would. And they’re gonna decrease your ground clearance as well.” Sara adds. “However, if you prefer more mild trails or if you’re just looking to add some side steps your Jeep, especially if it’s lifted, these are an excellent choice.” With a price tag of $140, they’re a pretty affordable way to achieve those goals, too.
Even better, these side steps essentially just bolt right on. Sara estimates that the job takes about two hours, which seems somewhat lengthy. But if you’ve ever installed a set of side steps on a Wrangler or any other vehicle, you know why. Getting all the brackets lined up properly can be a pain sometimes. And that’s why Sara rates this job as two out of three wrenches. But if you’ve got a little patience and basic tools, you won’t have a problem getting it done.
