Wrangler Mojave to Drop in 2021, will Come with Turbo 4 & Manual
Rumor has it the Gladiator will sport the Pentastar V6 while the Wrangler Mojave will ‘more than likely’ adopt the 2.0-liter turbo four-banger.
Jeep’s “Desert Rated” line definitely caught everyone’s attention at Chicago Auto Show with the Gladiator Mojave. Of course, we didn’t doubt a Wrangler version was far behind but we were left wondering when it’d ever drop. It appears Mopar Insiders recently got the scoop for the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Mojave edition, and it looks like it will come standard in a two-door config. Unlimited version will have four-doors.
According to Mopar Insiders, the desert-prepped vehicles will differ, powerplant-wise. Rumor has it the Gladiator will sport the Pentastar V6 while the Wrangler will “more than likely” adopt the 2.0-liter turbo four-banger. Craziest part about all of this is that the four-cylinder may have two flavors—six-speed manual models with electronic stop-start and an automatic version mated to the tried-and-true eTorque hybrid system. The latter is interesting, as the Sahara edition Wrangler also comes with an optional, 8-speed automatic eTorque hybrid four-cylinder motor for $2,000.
Mopar Insiders also says performance will remain unchanged for both engines at 270 horsepower and 295 lbs.-ft of torque. Stranger still, their source claims you can get the turbo-four at no extra cost but the auto transmission adds $1,500.
The Gladiator Mojave will get a ladder-frame chassis, stronger suspension and mounts with wider tracks, better cast iron steering knuckles, improved Dana 44 axle and and even bigger rear track bar. It’ll also come with electronic locking diff, 2.5-inch Fox shocks with internal bypass and external reservoirs, and Fox hydraulic jounce dampers. Frontal bump stops be gone in this flavor of Gladiator!
Finally, the Mojave trim will have orange-tinted accents similar to what we saw at Chicago Auto Show. You will see the sporty new hood with the “Mojave” copy on the side, orange-colored tow hooks, frontal silver-colored skid plate and the side rails. You get the orange stitching on the instrument panel, steering wheel, and seats.
Mopar Insiders claims the Wrangler Mojave will land at dealers this year.
